Had some work done by Mania on my SP

Postby Benny » Tue Feb 06, 2007 5:15 pm

I really shouldn't be telling everyone about this, but I just had to.

I had Mania put in a new computer and re-tune the car and picked it up last night.
What an improvement!!!!
That guy Walter, really knows how to tune a car on the dyno.

Boost has been increased, as well as getting rid of the mass sensor and everything is now mapped which means a lot less restriction on the air intake.

The increased power is certainly noticeable, but the biggest improvement is to the smoothness of the car.
Prior to this, I always had a problem with trying to feather the throttle under boost. The car would buck and jerk, and if you needed to adjust the throttle going around a corner on the track, the car would buck, and promptly spear off the track.
Now, I can do whatever I like to the throttle, and the car just responds smoothly and as I would like it to.

Another big improvement is to the driveability of the car.
To my surprise, I find it will now pull quite nicely in 6th gear from around 45k's, so it hardly needs much gearchanging now.

A definite 2 thumbs up for Mania! :D :D

I believe the ECU is a custom ad on unit developed by Walter.
RWKw went up by around 35kW in total, with big gains above 3500 rpm.
But the low down torque is sensational too.

Revs like a well-oiled sewing machine too.

A new ECU makes a huge difference to the way the SP drives doesn't it Benny. I drove an Autronic equiped one and it was a revelation. The way the SP should have dríven from the start.

I'm interested in how you talked Walter into tuning your car. Last time I talked to him he wasn't interested in touching a car with the Chiptorque modified chip. He would do a stock SP but the Chiptorque remap created a whole new level of complexity apparently.

Common silver - could be anyones .

BTW it was Prodrive who won the contract, not Tickford. (Okay - Prodrive brought out Tickford and use the ex-Tickford facility to do the work, but Prodrive has so much better cachet then Tickford 8)  )

Did they ditch the MAF and fit a MAP? That seems to be the root of any drivability issues. So you must be at 160-170kW ATW now?

Cost? I'm still thinking of getting the Autronic fitted to mine.
