Do you like the possibility of this being the ND?

No thanks... I'll stick to my NA/NB/NC

Ibuki Concept

Not sure if this is a repost but I just stumbled across this:

The Ibuki concept reaches back to the 1989 origins of the MX-5 and hints towards one possible approach for future models. The overall aim of the Ibuki is to further refine the fun-to-drive spirit that can be derived from a lightweight open top sports car.

Mazda Ibuki has an overall length of 3460mm which is 315mm shorter than the current MX-5. It measures 1720mm in width, 1230mm in height and rides on a wheelbase of 2330mm.

With the exterior, Mazda capitalises on these compact dimensions and the benefits of a twin backbone frame to give concrete support to driving functions. The oval body shape evokes a look of tension in repose and the 18-inch wheels and run-flat tires accentuate the car's well-planted stance.

By locating air conditioning behind the seats, Ibuki offers two major advantages. First, it allows the engine to be mounted further to the rear which improves weight distibution. Second, it enables improved independent left/right zoning so that occupants can obtain comfortably warm air according to their individual needs, even when driving with the top down.

Mazda Ibuki is powered by a new, lightweight and compact 16 valve MZR 1.6 litre inline four cylinder engine equipped with sequential valve timing and lift for both intake and exhaust valves. The engine features an integrated electric hybrid motor.

They had the actual car at the Sydney Motor Show a few years back.
I loved it then, and I still like it and prefer it to the production NC.

As a matter of fact, they released a few hundred special bottles of wine to commemorate the Ibuki, and I was lucky enough to buy a bottle at an auction!
Dearest bottle of alcohol I ever bought, but it'll never be drunk, not while I'm alive anyway, but is a nice keepsake to have on display in my office.

I only really like the windscreen in that car, I hate it when the top windscreen pillar makes me sit higher/lower to see traffic lights
As for the rest, it's too rounded on the outside and i'm not a fan of those seats

I like it too RaYmo - I'm not sure if I like it more than the NC though (new Roadster Coupe = sexy! :) ).

If you look closely you can clearly see the styling cues that went on to become the NC - the wheels arches, bonnet, steering wheel, front intake etc...

I only like the interior.

But, the most important question is how many cup holders does it have.

The current NC has two too many. We need more storage!!!
