Get your tail pipe cut, weld flanges on to either side of the cut, and then get a stock muffler flanged at the same position.

Best of both worlds. Loud and fun for the blasts and easy on the ears for those days of long driving.

That is what came with my car. Hotdog exhaust AND stock exhaust both flanged at the same position. Fantastic stuff!

I found that wind noise was far more significant than exhaust noise on the freeway, and my car was exceptionally loud.

With the roof up its another story though... Couldnt talk easily and the stereo had to be up quite loud to hear it clearly...

I have an aftermarket exhaust and although highway driving with the top down is loud, it's mostly the wind and road noise and the exhaust in the background. Doesn't really bother me - but everyone's different...

My muffler is second hand....but had only done about 100km. An older couple put it on their NC, didn't like how loud it was, so came back to mania that afternoon to get the standard muffler put back on

Dan it depends on how the aftermarket exhaust was done.

I have a stock muffler sitting around, i'd swap it for an aftermarket one.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Walkers make a very good exhaust system for the 5.
Not only was it tuned on the dyno, but it makes a very nice note too, but because Walkers make a lot of OEM exhausts, they were able to tune out the droning that you usually get from after-market systems.

They do a nice 2.5\" system that realy does increase performance.

I just got a 2.25 exhaust done with a 2.25 straight through glass pack muffler, the glass packing is supposed to help get rid of the drone. If your exhaust is too large it will have more of a droning note due to the slower flow rate. I find mine is fairly quiet for cruising and then when it is loaded up it says zoom zoom.

Has anyone here fitted the custom mania exhaust before?

How does that fare in comparison to other aftermarket exhausts?
