Headrest Speakers

Hey folks..

I am getting seriously sick of listening to my music through the blown headrest speakers...

Does anyone know of any decent, resonably priced replacements that are available in Aus??

If anyone has links, prices, reviews or any other info.. PLEASE POST..

If there is anyone else in the same boat... Group Buy??

You can replace them with 3 1/2 inch rounds (or is it 3 inch...can't quite remember!) but you need to remove some of the foam in the headrest to do so. Jaycar used to sell some but could only find 4 inch ones. Here's some 3 1/2's that might suit?

is it possible to fit one 4\" speaker into each headrest as opposed to the pair of 3\"s?

Just disconnect them and get a set of decent front splits. This will give you way better sound than any 3 1/2\" headrest speaker could give you. Won't cost much more either.

i was looking at sticking in a set of jaycar 4\"s for the fronts, but i do a decent bit of freeway driving with the roof down and just dont know if this would suffice..

how difficult is it to fit in a set of 6\" or 6 1/2\" splits while maintaining a stock sort of look?

i have a set of jensen \"splits\" i guess, that i took out of my car last week. the main speaker sits in the stock speaker location in the door (fits perfectly in behind the stock door speaker grill), and the tweeter sits up in the A frame.

i only took them out coz i didn't particularly like the look of the tweeters sitting in the A frame. but that's just a personal taste thing, other people had commented that they thought it looked cool. they sound GREAT tho. definately sound better than the pioneers that i replaced them with. ( i only changed them coz i had the door trim off , and had these pioneers laying around that i had bought years ago but never fitted to my old car).

so i guess i would be open to reasonable offers if anyone wants them. no idea what they are worth tho.

You can fit 8" in the doors on the NB without any cutting metal, don't know if it's the same for the NA.

I wouldn't get 4\" speakers STV, I'd definitely get 6 1/2\" splits which fit in the NA door very easily. The tweeters look good in the corner of the A-frame as suggested above. Go to a decent specialist stereo shop (I recommend Complete Car Sound in Enoggera if you're in Brissie) and listen to their splits and pick a mid range one that sounds best to you. You should pay about $150 - 200 for the splits and about $50ish fitment. It will make a world of difference. And if you want it to sound really good get a 2ch amp to run them as well. That starts to get a bit more pricey though.

i think i will go for a set of splits but get someone else to fit them for me, and probably just unplug the headrest ones..

On a related note, I'm heading overseas next month and looking to buy some splits and an amp. Anyone got pictures or descriptions of where they installed their amps?

Are there any ideal places etc. to place it?

Regarding the headrest speakers.. i cut out the foam and rounded off the metal and was able to fit a 4\" Fusion speaker in each.. makes a huge difference in sound

regarding the question about the amp... just buy a piece of 10mm wood to cover the dip in the boot (if its an NA i dont know about other models) i was able to then store a 4 channel amp and monoblock underneath it, i created a hinged door so you are able to open and access the amps.. i bought black carpet from clarks and glued it on and it looks great

Speakers, 6.5 inch splits are the go. Forget the headrest speakers. If you're on a tight budget, Jaycar make some pretty good, well priced 6.5 inch splits. About $150 I think. Kevlar cone, crossovers included.

As for amps, I had a small amp mounted behind the passenger seat in my NA's. The seat would still go back all the way on the runners. Just had to be wary of rain getting on things. I don't think there's much room under the seats...

In NB's, there is a tunnel, for want of a better word, from inside the boot area towards the cabin on the right hand side. You could fit a smallish amp down there.
