looking at getting some new wheels for my na8. went down to bob jane and they had a special for about $700 on wheels and tyres (tyres will get upgraded and the rims were what i was after). will 16x7 fit with a 40 mm offset or will i need spacers? also, the bloke said they were standard weight for an alloy rim. they were not overly heavy, but not as light as the standard ones. will this make much of a difference?

Always try and stay as close as you can to the standard rims weight as they really do affect the MX5's balance and heavy wheels make for a slower car too. Personally I'd go for a set of 15x6-7's on an NA. If you can score a set of 15x6 off an 98-2000 NB8A you'd be set.

There's some nice looking and lighweight rims out there...just that they cost a bit!

I 100% agree with Craig, if the rims aren't as light as your stock rims, DON'T BOTHER.
Also you really should try and match the stock offset because that's what the suspension is engineered for.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

He doesn't require wheel spacers. In NSW any kind of wheel spacer is illegal unless it came fitted from the factory. The wheel size should fit.
In my opinion.....16\" rimms are the best locking rim. As far as zize is concerned. But 16\" becomes very restrictive when it comes to buying soft compound & semislick type of tyre. But That is not going to be a bother drmx5.
But I'm courious ........what are you expecting to get from a $87.50 tyre ?
