3M Paint Protection Film

Postby PT » Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:19 pm

Anyone ever used this? I'm considering putting this on the mini. Apparently there is a very fine line visible on lighter coloured cars which isn't so visible on darker colours...

Just waiting on an exact quote but expecting it to be around $5-600 for the MINI, depending on if they have the stencil, or have to get it.

Some useful links for those who don't know what it is.

I made my own stencils and stuck it on the most vulnerable places on my bike. On the red bits and looking up close you can see the outlines but cant see it from a few steps back.

It seems to be good for stopping gravel rash type damage but a large stone has hit it and taken a chunk out of the film and the paint. So it's not going to totally eliminate damage.

Yeah, I'm guessing not...

Might get them to put a small patch on and see if the lines annoy me, or even if it sits flat over the vynil bonnet stripes.

Expensive stuff.

I'd be more worried about it going yellow over time and being impossible to remove?

I've had them on my NB8B since new over 2.5 yrs. Works very well. Unfortunately, they only cover the front 300mm. So I've got a couple of small chips on the bonnet above that.

Also scraped the side against a brick pillar in the garage. The film took most of the damage, and I just replaced the film. So it's pretty tough stuff, despite being a thin film.

It's supposed to be non-UV proof, so the paint underneath fades with the rest of the bonnet. And yes, there is a thin line noticeable up close. Usually gunked up with car polish, but a toothpick will get rid of most of it.

Thanks Peter...
Could you provide piccies?

Given the chance, would you do it again? Also, how much did it cost you?

I got the film for my bike from Ozicozi. The guy I dealt with was quite friendly and helpful. They didn't have any stencils on their database for my bike so he told me how to make my own. :D

Yes. It was easy on my bike because they were only small areas and relatively flat surfaces

I dont think I would like to try and do a bumper bar or something similar though.

I'll try and post a piccie when I have the time. Currently, I'm more in Melb than Syd, and don't get much time to do much but keep the club m'ships going.

The job cost $500, then the little re-patch cost $50.
