I think you have to make sure the crown wheel and pinion gears mesh in the centre of the gear teeth using bearing blue or similar. Not sure about setting up backlash though.

I'd be interested to hear how you go and how difficult you think it is once you're done... :)

yep backlash is very important. Having it set wrong will ruin your diff within a few hundred meters of driving. (there is a thread about this in secretdrift.com and pictures showing the damage)

bah.

i was told thats its a straight out and straight in swap. guess not..

ill do a bit more research before pulling things apart i guess...

guy i was talking to was giving the impression that you didnt need to align the gears and set the back lash.. bummer hey.. have some bearing blue and dials at work so still should be able to manage...

anyone have a work shop manual saying backlash, and torque settings for the related tasks :? maybe a bit of a step by step guide?

So Mania do it in Sydney. Does anyone know who can do it in Melbourne?

Manga, I bought my LSD centre form Mania, dismantled the rear end myself and took the diff to Transdiff, 3/51 Scoresby Road, Bayswater, 97208655. They put the LSD centre in, took a couple of days and charged $130.
I put the whole thing back together and presto, it works fine.

Sav, thanks, that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Couldn't ask for a better answer.
