updated* with the new Apexi pod filter.

Didn't make a huge difference in performance but its good to know that the engine is getting clean air now.

i will drill when i get around to it. this will do for now.

Now for my new NON dodgy air intake made by Exhaust tech

the pipe goes straight down from the intake manifold, bends up in to the free space under the front bumper right next to the hole in the front lip spoiler. the guys did a great job and im heaps happy.

The sound, wicked: big smile action
The throttle response: heheheh coooool, more than before but i have the hks thingy too
whiplash action: eerrrgghhh not whiplash but getting closer. gonna get it dynoed to see how it is.
bling factor: oh yeh bling... looks like i have an intercooler pipe going somewhere.

now that you've gotten rid of your afm, why not position yr filter on the cold side of the engine? just route it straight down off the the throttle body.
you won't have to drill a hole, the air will be cooler, and you'll have a shorter path.

i think someone on here did a VERY short cold side intake and found that there was better throttle response (due to the decreased length of the tract) and slightly more power...

but it chewed through fuel like it was going out of style...

i guess thats the price you pay though..

ive seen a couple on NBs but not on NAs.

there have to be ways around the fuel consumption with a shorter air intake. hmmmm

anyone else like to comment on this cold side air intake??

i don't understand how shortening the track and cooling the air causes more fuel consuption.. :S

is it cos its louder and more fun to drive so you gas it more... cos ive found myself reving the crap out of my car alot more now.

i take second gear to 60 now instead of 3rd... naughty me

simple fix.....just move the air circulate/recirculate slider a little and the volume will change/lower :mrgreen:

Well, that one looks good, however, it cost me less than $110 to build mine, which is what that one costs posted.

It is a lot bigger than the recommended size too. I got the filter and cover from Autobarn - $55. A 100mm-80mm (recommended is 65-70mm)reducer from plumbing supplies - $5. 1 foot of scrap 80mm from mate the plumber - $0. An adaptor so you can run a pod from our AFMs - $30. And some hammertone Blue paint - $9. Total - $99.

And it sounds fabulous. :mrgreen:

It only took me a couple of hours. Oh I forgot that I had some flat bar which I made a bracket out of, so factor that in...

The most tedious part was drilling the firewall... I only had a small drill, and not a hole saw, so I had to drill a thousand tiny holes around the outside of the circle and then get the dremel out to smooth it down. :roll:
