Fixing dash pad/board separation

Postby Spranga » Fri Dec 29, 2006 9:54 am

Hi anyone got an easy way to fix this problem? The front face of my dash is separating from the horizontal surface of the dash. It is not that bad at the moment however it will not simply slot back in and the orange insulation foam underneath looks really ugly. Any ideas???? Anyone tried glueing it?

Thanks

Dan

Anyone??? I thought this was a relatively common problem?

Mine was cracked. So there was probably a bit more incentive to go the whole hog.

Dashes are either vacuum formed or slush moulded, and can't really be repaired.
You can re-cover them though, and there are a few companies out there who specialise in this.

fixing dash pad board separation

Postby trader » Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:21 pm

Hi Spranga

Mine was not separating but did have an annoying squeak. I managed to pull it away and the rubberised glue that had been used had hardened.
I used a black goo called bostik gold flex with a caulking gun (you can probably find something cheaper). Got to take care pulling it off though especially at the end near the steering wheel.

Sounds like gluing can work :D . I will give it a go.

Thanks for the advice.

NA dashed have the plastic top bit, and the vynil wrapped padding that goes on the front.

the padding is clipped and glued in, i recently ripped mine off..
and destroyed it.

its over $300 new from mazda.

i think ill get mine retrimmed.

ive been running without it for a while, looks very star wars.

can be easily fixed

If you know a trimmer or are good with a sewing mahine you can make up some piping which you can then squeeze in under and above in the join will take a while to do the whole dash though

I plan on doing this in the near future as mine has done the same

or I could just put the NB dash in!
