Cotter Road - ACT

I'm sure that everyone on here from the good old ACT will know this road well but for out of towners, this road is definately one of the best in canberra. lots of tight corners and not a straight bit of road longer than 150m and all with a 100km/h speed limit. just keep an eye out for wildlife at night (plentiful). (i have hit a number of kangaroos in my 4wd and a mate took out a wombat in his RS liberty (expensive))

Also, if you own a 4wd, there are many good tracks and hills out that way which are definately worth the investigation.

i can't wait to drive it when i finally get my MX-5:D

Don't be shy, Sly. Join the Canberra Chapter of the MX5 Club of NSW and enjoy this road and many others in the car that they were bulit for.

We will be doing this as a Chapter run on the 25th Feb

Near the Cotter Dam there's the turn off for Brindabella Rd.

This is absolutely fantastic. Very tight so coming downhill back toward Cotter Rd can be very entertaining!

My favourite route is to go from Tharwa past Tidbinbilla and detour up and down Brindabella Rd then back home along Cotter Rd.

Although with the Tharwa Bridge closed you can't quite do the whole drive any more.

Warning - the bikies love this road.

That means two things - (1)risk of finding bike(s) on your side of the road :shock:

, and (2)the local coppers know that the bikies love this road, and patrol it (especially on weekends :frown:

.

Locals will recall a spate of motorcycle accidents out there which were well publicised, along with the usual response from the local pollies etc., which also prompted the wallopers to keep the patrols up. May have changed since then of course ...

One advantage of a lot of the roads out there is that you can be quite 'fast' and still be under the speed limit
