Hi everyone
Just scored a set of Impul RS 16s (16x7 @ 31 offset and 16x8 @ 38 offset), now it's just a matter finding good value tyres to go on.
I'm thinking along the line of either 195/45R16 (rare) or 205/40R16 on the front with the 16x7 and possibly 215/40R16 rear with 16x8.
Any particular brand and where to buy?
Cheers
Minh
Help finding tyres for 16x7 and 16x8 rims ??

are you running 215 on all fours? how do you find the 215 at the front? isn't that a tad too wide? Also how much did the T1Rs set you back?
Cheers

What's the offset of your rims bigdog?, my fronts 16x7 are @ +31 and my rears 16x8 @ +38 and they seem awefully close to strut well, I'm pretty sure it'll be ok cause these rims were originally on an MX5 to begin with, but would be good to have second reference. How do the wider tyres handle in the wet? isn't it more susceptible to aqua-plaining due to the decrease in pressure per contact area?....is 215 within legal limits of the NA?

Mine are +42 all round Mr Starlet - so you would be 9mm closer at the front and 3 at the back - shouldn't be a problem. Brilliant in the wet unless I want them to break loose No aquaplaning and the overall difference to 205/45 is not that great.
With the NA legality will depend on what wheela were specified on your car - they started with 14x5.5\" inch I think and finished up with 15x6.5inch. You are allowed an inch increase in diameter and a half inch in width of track if memory serves me correctly, so if you have an early one, no, and if you have a late one, maybe, but probably not!

as far as legalety goes.
NSW would probably be the same or very similar to QLD. But never assume.
firstly which model of MX5 do you have. Its really hard to guess. especially when you start asking specific questions.
put it in your sig.....or just tell us.
In NSW you can increase the width of the tyre & rimm by 26mm legally
you can change the wheel & tyre height combination to whatever combination you want provided there is no more thanm 15mm difference in yotal height from the original OEM height.
The offset. You can increase or decrease the track width by 25mm max. thats about 12.5mm each wheel.
I'm, pretty certain any kind of wheel spacer is illegal unless it was supplied on the car from the factory. In other words OEM.
these are considered minor mods & don't need to be checked or singed by an engineer.
but check these out with your state........
I'll try to find the article.

Qld rules are much different. You should be able to find the pdf of the minor modifications booklet on the qld transport site. From memory you can go up to 1.3 times the widest optional rim specified my the manufacturer and up to 25mm wider track overall. Thats only for if the scaleys have a good going over it anyways.
I run 15 x 7 with +35 offset with 205/50/r15 and i could easily go to 215's all round I reckon. And you are only 4mm further out on the front.
