But it's the retardation of the cam timing which causes the huge power loss.

after putting some decent thought into yes thats right....

but... advancing the timing will help ALOT when it comes to driveability... well it did in our case.

Who can tell me the 3 VITAL ingredients of internal combustion?

1) Air

2) Spark

and

3)???? Your needle not sitting on empty. The stumbling and lack of power might be something to do with not having anything to burn.

It seems that I thought that 1 + 1 = new engine, when in fact, 1 + 1 = me being the largest spanner in the shed.

Thanks to JBT and Andrew for coming out and having a look at my pulley wobble, which they have assured me is acceptable and not terminal.

The theme of this post is  ... I welcome your laughter, I deserve it.

What a week.

Ah well we all have our moments Boags...

Wayne has left his oil cap off... ive dropped a diff and had a car towed home when the problem was just a loose tyre and you've forgotten about the all important petrol gauge.

Might have to start a thread... \"What stupid things have you done?\"

Classic!!!!

Well done Boags!!!

So the road trip will be back on, and you don't have to worry about a new engine! Good news all round!

JBT and myself get there and he cranks it over, it splutters and dies. We check the timing (all good) and try again and the same thing happens. I say \"it sounds like its starving for fuel\" and JBT agrees. We check the fuel pump and its runs. Then JBT says \"the fuel gauge is pretty low\" and Boag's face has the expression of \"I cant believe this is happening to me\" while mine and JBT's eyebrows raise a few levels. You all know the rest from the guilty party's post above.

Statistics are, several phone calls and a 1 1/2 hour 70km round trip through Friday afternoon Christmas traffic only to say \"you are out of petrol\"

I have some large selection of spanners in my shed but none as large as Boags. :P

bwhahahaha

I've had a similar experience with a bike, but my excuse was that it didn't have a fuel gauge or a low fuel light.

At least it was a cheap easy fix.
