Experience with Wolf V500
Hi,
Has anyone had any experience with the latest generation of Wolf EMS V500 ?
I am looking into this as it can now plug straight into a stock wiring harness and has on-board vacum.
thanks, rob

A LOT more than a plug and play wolf. Maybe twice the price?

I would have thought it would have more to do with the tuner.
If the tuner knows more about the intricate things/options with the computer he/she is tuning on whichever motor/vehicle it is, then they will get the best tune possible.
Whereas if they really don't know much at all about the computer/motor combination they are tuning and it's associated software, then they won't have the skills to do as good a job.

An Autronic SM4 will cost you $2350 with inbuilt map sensor wiring
harness and Air temp sensor. Then you need to wire it in. If you can follow
a wiring Diagram it is pretty straight forward .
What Model MX5 do you have ???

this was only here say from a bloke that builds expensive race motors.
All after market ECU will make around the same Power.
The big differance is that the More Expensive ones are easyer to drive
as an every day car.

Hi,
Thanks for comments, I am interested in the most recent Wolf... It has apparently been significantly updated from previous units so I'm wondering if some of the opinion's here are based on old models..
I have not done any research into ECU's b4 so I have to do some reading.
I have a '90 NA6 and really want to get rid of the AFM and all the plumbing to clean up the engine bay. I would like to just put a pod filter on the drivers side behind the head light. I may then have to do some exhaust work to get full benefit before I get a really good tune done. I guess I then have options for a turbo in the future but don't know if that will ever happen. (who knows?, these MX5's are very addictive cars...

Rob, www.wheelspin.com.au have put the Wolf V500 on an NB(SE) MX-5s and perhaps some NA MX-5s too.
They've also done quite a few V400s, the new electronic dash is quite nice.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Find a tuner you're happy with and ask him what ECU he wants you to use for the spefic application.
No point speing big $$$ on an ECU to find the guy you want is a novice with that model or brand.
I've seen cars with basic piggybacks run exceptionally well and another car with a high spec Haltech run poorly - The haltch had a basic tune. The owner took it to a haltech specialist and the car was transformed - perfect idle, more power and BETTER economy!

When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.
