Tyres for NB8B, any suggestions??

Postby fleery » Sun Dec 10, 2006 11:38 am

Hey all,

After the last track day it is time to replace my melted tyres!!

Looking for everyday (ie. not track day) tyres for 2001 NB8B with the standard rims. Any suggestions??

Also, any good cheap tyre places in city area??

Thanks in advance,

Fleery.

Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

from that thread....The Azenis RT 615's do not come in the size you require.

The Toyo T1R sound like the go but i've also read they don't stand up to track work punishment. But very good grip for a normal street tyre.

Go the Toyo T1R.
As for standing up to track work, mine seem to be holding up pretty well after 2 Wakefield sessions and about 8k on the road, which includes a few runs up the Putty.
We tick around Wakefield in low 1.17's, which is pretty respectable on street rubber in a standard car. On the road the T1R's are extreemly responsive, excellent turn in and predictable drift at the extreem, directional changes are precise and I really don't give a hoot about wear rate.

10/10

I gave up waiting for T1R's to become available in January and settled for one down the chain, the Proxes 4's :?

Thanks for all your help guys/girls.

Looks like im off to try find some Toyo T1R's, or Precedas or PP2's...looks like in that order counting the votes!

Thanks

Fleery.

PP2s = Michelin Pilot Preceda 2's so you might wanna recount your votes. They are a sporty tyre developed for and sold only in the Asian market.

For what it's worth, I've now done 1000km or so on the PP2s and they're certainly a quieter, more comfortable tyre (both attributes quite low on my list of priorities), but certainly don't corner as well as the Yoko ES100's during the first 2/3 of their life. Much more inclined to let go around a roundabout in the dry.

They aren't as grippy under brakes, either, but beat the ES100's hands down under acceleration. All this in the dry, not much rain down here recently, but the ES100s were glorious in the wet.

Overall, I'm reasonably happy with the precedas though.

Cheers,
Alf

Anyone using Kumho KU31's?? Guy in store recommends them over the Toyo T1R and PP2's??

Anyone???.......

Also cheap...$165, compared to $169 Toyo and and $219 PP2's.

I'm using the Kumho V70A which are supposibly a replacement for the KU31s. Same as the Lotus boys used to use. Very very happy with them so far, basically close to an R spec compound with a streetable tread pattern.
