Spoiler or no spoiler? that is the question...

Im thinkin that my spoiler is lookin pretty crappy. It came with the car wen i bought it i just cant decide whether i like it or not. it makes my car stand out a tiny bit more but its not a very good spoiler. what do u guys think??? i might get a different spoiler sometime in the future (either a subtle lip or an over the top gt spoiler) but we will see. any opinions or advice would be much appreciated...

Your car needs a good detail, long before it needs the spolier removed.

And that type of spoiler is bolted onto the car, so if you remove it you will have to fill the holes and paint it.

My car is booked for a respray early next year, so i was wonderin if i should keep it or take it off...bcuz either way the paint will be fine, if i take it off the will paint the patches in the respray, but then if i want to put it bak on then i need to paint my spoiler.

A detail wont help much as about half the car is missing the clearcoat toplayer and ther is severe fading and sun damage, thus im probably goin for the respray...

Yeah but if his clearcoat is peeling here and there then there's only so much that can be done without going the whole hog...

Ditch the spoiler, throw it away... It looks awful.

And you'd be better off not putting any spoiler on IMO. I have yet to see a spoiler that looks good on an mx5. As a matter of fact most cars benefit from having the spoiler removed, it really cleans up the lines of the car.

i agree, ditch the spoiler.. it looks like the ones on ebay that are a \"universal fit\".. looks dodgy.

Ummm - what part of there never was any clear coat on the red NA's was missed here???

this is y i think that my paint requires the full haul... (plz excuse the poor quality photos taken from my fone.)

i dont know much about paint, it may be able to be fixed by a detail, i dont know what a detail actually entails...

Steve 818. How long did that detail on the roof last.

everytime i do mine like that it laste 2-3 days. Butr I gues its just a wax & polish. Not a professional Detail.

to be honest i wouldnt trust myself in doing anything (in fear of making the paint worse and fear of it ending up costing me more) we got quoted about 2 grand for the respray...does this sound about right?

Yep, agreed. My Eunos came from Japan with the same rear spoiler, which I removed soon afterwards. Still haven't got around to neatly patching the holes up yet, but it still looks heaps better than having the spoiler on to my eyes.

As for clear-coat, was it just the non-metallic colours that didn't have a clear coat, or all colours? My car is silver and has a few patches that just won't come back to life...
