1. Talk to an engineer first
2. Then shop for turbo bits

Tony & Jen own the red NB8B turbo.
Spoke to him a while back about the cost, it was around $8K.
Then the was the LSD, and the coil overs, and the brakes, and ........

Another member recently bought a Titanium that had $22K of turbo work done on the car, so are you really that attached to your MX-5 or does buying a SE now make more sense?

PaoPee wrote:of course an SE is gonna be more viable but how much would i be able to sell my 2003 NB for 20k tops maybe 19k, then there registration, then purchasing an SE for 30k? atm it kinda looks the same if all work done on the car is proper. Like i said just gathering the info, why didnt tony and jen buy an SE? i dont know im happy to add things on bit by bit, its more enjoyable that way, and also i can have my own personal mx5, i dont know cant explain it. not tryin to pick a fight but yea, i was lookin for sp or car with turbo, but people have told me as a first car i shouldnt get a turbo when i first bought the car, hence why i got my nb8b, now after 3 months its get an SE lol. But yea like i said just gathering info so yea its all cool

OK, the way I see it is this. Your car is worth 20k. Spend 10k on a turbo and your car is still worth 20k. The money is gone. You have spent it. It's not coming back if you sell.

Buy an SE/SP for 30k and the car is still worth 30k if you choose to sell.

Insurance on non standard turbo will probably cost more too.
If you love your car and never want to sell it then do what you like, because it won't be so much of a financial decision.

Either way he won't find a BLUE one

send BJones a PM and ask him some serious questions, he does have the Weapon of Weapons.
Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

I don't know. Turbo Girl and Pilsner's SP replica would probably give it a spanking. All depends on how far you are prepared to go.

Small Error, I thought original post was from SpeedRacer hence BLUE reference, he was a later poster asking same question(s).

although TG&P's car may kick someone elses booty the point is moot, my point was BJ has done i.e. Turbo'd and complied a NB8B which is exactly what the guys are asking about, whether it is a Greddy, AVO or a Tarzan & Jane kit doesn't really matter, the same questions remain.

How hard?
Where?
Help?

as for how far do you go, ask this guy

But how many used SE's could BJ have purchased for the price of his turbo conversion? :P

Daniel from Mania did BJs car. The question is answered again - like it was on the first page of this forlorn post. Regardless of whether its a financially poor decision to turbo an NB or any other model, it's the owners choice to make that call. The information about how best to do it is very readily available from people who have actually done it. I would question the real need to have fellow forumites convince you of your decision though - which ever way it may go. Make the call, do it and live by it. Caveat emptor.

To finish.... you can lead a horse to water, but you can't necessarily DROWN it. 8)

Let's just say these were aftermarket parts issues and leave it at that. Davids car beat a Maserati Trofeo Cup car at Phillip Island - nuff said.

Not wanting to start a COW but I'd be wanting to hear the good and the bad stories before handing over big $$$ myself. BJ's car has aftermarket parts in his engine and it seems ok. :?

Geoffro's (on the forum here) son Andrew had his NB turboed, and it was very quick, but he's sold it now and gone to an XR8.
Perhaps he could shed a little light on the subject for you.
