ebay extractors finally installed!!!

Postby vrmmmpshhh » Wed Nov 22, 2006 10:59 pm

hey guys.. OMG what an evening.. started at 5 and finsihed around 9!!

ran into a few problems that others will probably face if you buy these extractors.

1. stock bolts will be ALL riusted and most probably snap.

2. extractor holes dont line up exactly to the head and have to be ground out a little

3. dunno if others had the same problem but the FREAKING O2 sensor wouldnt go on!!! the extractors were threaded wrong, or my jap spec roadster has a different sensor. I had to retap the stock sensor to fit the thread.

extractors are goldish blue now and look excellent :D i dont have a cat back but the stock muffler definately sounds different.

I didn't have the same problem with the O2 sensor - mine threaded straight in, once I'd extended the wire to it.

I quite like the change in exhaust note too. Noticed any more top end power?

hi huys, good to see i wasnt the only one to fall into the ebay shiny extractors trap.
They are ok now after a bit of modding.

My O2 sensor went in fine.

I also found the holes dont line up, also not only do the holes not line up, but the ports dont either. if you put the stock gasket up against your new extractors you should find the same thing I did, the ports too close together, about 8mm by the end port. This was solved by cutting through the extractors with a super thin disc on a angle grinder and doing a little porting using the old gasket and a die grinder. Then when I intalled them I spread the two halves apart with a screwdriver and all is done.

In hindsight I woulnt have bothered with them for the trouble they cause I would have been better off cleaning the welds up inside the stock header for the little gain.

Can I ask that you provide links to the ebay sellers you all used so people know which one just works.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Mine came from drifta_r32 link They have a xs power tag on them so they are from the same place as many of the US ebay ones and also many others. I Think you willl find they will probably all be the same but most peaple have just filed out the holes thinking they dont line up right and not noticed the porting. Other than that they are quite well finished with nice smooth bends and tidy welds, too bad they dont fitt :D

Speaking of 1.6 Ex Tractors ..

These are on ebay and are probably only about 6 months old, look almost new.

I purchased mine from the same guy and was able to pick them up. I had Mettam's exhaust fit them. Only hassle was to extend the O2 sensor which I had pre-warned them. Had them on the car for at least 6 months with no probs and quite pleased with them :D

this is exactly the problem with them, if people aren't fitting them themselves they wont see this problem and most mechanics are more than likely just to fit them by filing out the holes and won't even consider the ports. As long as the customer can see from the outside that they are fitted and shiny and they get thier money then they are happy. If you are actually looking to fit them for the very mild gain they may give, then the ports would need to be matched.
