Yes!! I missed this one - it looks like it went really well and everyone had a good time. Good to see red5 putting the boys-who-won't-touch-greasy-stuff-that-ain't-food to shame (HI WAYNE :D).

I calculated the Transplant took 11.5 hours from start to finish based on Andrew and Jans start time on Friday and the time it took on Saturday to when the car turned over.

Andrew, Jan, Boags were pretty much on it all day, then JBT helped from about Noon, with assorted others offering to turn a wrench or place a hose as the day progressed.

When you look at it. The dodgys allow 5 enthusiasts an opportunity to fix stuff that a dealership would charge an arm and a leg for.

What would it cost to replace an engine through Mazda ????

Two thumbs up for Jan too... she now knows more about cam seals, engine mounts and turbo actuator rods than I will ever know.

Well, that was a big day and a bit. A big thanks to all those that attended to give a hand and also those who came just for the socialising. That's what a dodgy day is all about.

I started about 2pm Friday cleaning out the shed and getting tools and every thing in place. Red5, JBT and myself finished about 9:30 Friday night.

Started again at 8:30am Saturday picking up Red5 from the train and finished cleaning up the shed about 9pm.

Some of the dodgyness done was.
Red5's engine transplant and soft top rubber seal fix.
Boags's NA to NB Soft top transplant (very nice by the way) CAS seal and oil change.
Jules's engine, gearbox and diff oil change.
Uncle Arthur's detailing job.
And I'm sure some other stuff went on as well that I didn't see. I filled a 20lt drum with used oil. And all this done without the use of a jack or stands thanks to the hole's in the floor (knew they wold come in useful when i did them 16 years ago). :roll:

This is nearly every body who came along. (even 99MXV can be seen watching top gear)

I've done a few back of envelope calcs, and the average value of each of the dodgy days held thus far comes up around the $1.5K-$2K mark.

BSDD1:

Me - 100000K service + waterpump
Wayne - bling fitment (couple hours labour at Mazda prices)
Sabre - brake service
Jules - timing?
What else???

BSDD2:

Me - clutch refit + CAS reseal
Phillip - CAS
Rogue - timing belt + water pump+brakes
Jules - timing belt + water pump
What else???

BSDD3

Me - skin peel, dermabrasion and fresh face mask (polish and detail)
Red5 - Heart + hair (softop) transplant
Boags - hair transplant
Jules - fluid flush and transfusion (gearbox, engine & diff)
What else???

Basically - we could do a write up of the collective wisdom of dodgies so far and we've got practically a workshop manual worth of practical hands on experience.

Further to what UA has figured, we collectively also have hands on experience in MX-5 exhaust sytems, diffs and suspension. There isn't much that hasn't been done or that we haven't tried as individuals.

Bring on the next DD. :)
