Can you get decent dodgy alignment?

In Sydney's Eastern suburbs see Stu at Spinning Wheel in Burke St Wooolllomollllooooo. He has a few regular MX5 customers on his books with a few tried and tested set ups and also seems to be happy to play around until the car is set up the way you like it. They also have a lot of high end eg Porsche, Ferrari MB etc customers. Always worth a look around the workshop while your waiting.

Ralphie, I'm trying Trutrack in Nth Melbourne at the moment. They've got a pretty strong racing/sports focus.
The deal is slightly different and dearer than the prices you're seeing here in that I've paid a fee up front for what might be a series of alignments until we're happy with it. The first set-up has been fairly mild as a tryout for street work and feels pretty good. If it doesn't work on the track as well then we'll take it a step further, etc.
I'm not sure yet whether or not this is the right way to go but they've been pretty straightforward to deal with so far.

You should just give it a go...
I have done many a car with a string line.. just as acurate as any of the latest equiptment.. just takes a bit longer to set up.. and measuring the caster is the hardest part..
but its fun and exciting to know you did it yourself
but if your going to a workshop.. i take mine to Jax Stmarys.. $70 and a good job too

Ralphie, I've PM'ed the price. Here's the background to it.
I'm trying to run in clubman class on stock springs and stock 14x6 wheels with street tyres. They weren't too sure about how to set up race handling for such a stock setup.
I figured that it could easily take two alignments to do it, so I'd probably end up in front and I'd have some input into what was being done. Maybe you'll find someone who knows straight out what's best for your setup and needs and get it done just once for $90 or so. I don't know.
The race handling was atrocious before, no grip, terrible oversteer, mainly due to zero and even positive cambers. He's taken it to 5.30 castor and -0.5/-1.0 camber F/R as the first step, saying he knows that's pretty mild but I should drive it like that for a while first, get the feel of it and then come back and talk. I wanted to go to around -1.5/-2.0 but he reckoned it's better to test it in stages. I can handle that because they're 5 minutes drive from my place and you get to check all the other cars there.
