Next was the painting of the stess folds where the original damage had been repaired. Dont want to have rust undo all the hard work in a few years.

unfortunatly there is no before & after pic. i forgot to take it.
all the crap on the insde of the fender that you can see will also be cleaned up & primed before the big day.

This was also a good opportunety to line up the headlight covet & bonnet a little better.
here are the before & after pics. The pics don't give it real justice but the improvement is hudge. I tried to actually bend it a little more into place with a massive lever......& bang brocke some plasic bits you live & you learn.  . Thats been fixed but I evetually used some panel washers to get it to allingn correctly.

Nice gaps STM - you have to be \"very\" patient to get those gaps consistent. Keep up the posting :)

what i was refering to wasn't just light cover. I think the whole pop up assembly must have been bent out of shape when i crashed the car into the Armco. I broke a few of the plastic connectiont which connect the motor & the pop up mechanism. its a little bar which connects the motor & the light which pops up.. I was trying to bent the whole frame back into place. It wasn't goping to happen so 1 single washer in 2 different places. Its only bolted in at 3 places. And the bonnet now shuts when you drop it....again.
I had to actually press it closed after we adjusted it with the original work at bigdogs place, to get it past the scrutineers for a day at wakefield.

next was the spoiler which was prepped at bigdogs dodgy day. Originally the paint reacted with the plastic bonding primer. So this time I tried a different make. Sweet as pie. . I looked as hard as i could. I couldn't see any reacting this time. Covered it with some Acrylic primer. let it bake in yesterdays sun. Then.....bolted the spoiler back on.

same with the front mudflaps. But i only got the passenger side one sorted.

And today I got some primer on the side panel. After prepping it yesterday.

All in all I'll be in the dog house now until at least chrismas. The paln was to finish it by then......looks like it will be Christmas 2007.

Nice fence
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well the labour of love continued this morning.

It was the bonnets turn.
before
Image

basically the bonnet had been prepped before but since then, a whole heap of crap has attached itself to the bonnet so.
it was washed down, De waxed & dryed. The Co-pilot wanted to help his Old man. So he will deserve all the credit if it all goes well.
then just cut it back with 800 grade paper. Also rather than taping it up. The bonnet got removed.
ImageImage

Also fixed some nicks which i put in the side of the bonnet while allingning it the other day.

so it was then sprayed and allowed to bake in the hot sun before it was replaced & reallingned.

:D
Image

so the next step will be the doors & morrors. but i'm tossing up with the idear of doing the mirrors last on the day of the paint job as they are very fiddley & probably only want to do them once.
same with the window not sure whats involved with the removal of the window so thinking of doing this on the weekend of the respray.

oh well, time to ponder....

i know your not out to make more work out of this but would now be a good oportunity to try rolling your guards?? i know before i respray im going to try and flare the hell outta mine  :D

i'd probably look around and find the way that wont damage pannels by creasing though :?

keep up the good work STM. its really coming together well. can see it looking a treat when its done 8)

rolling the guard is not my style. I like the plain look. I don't like the look you get with something like 15mm offset.....to me it looks overcooked. My philosphy is to keep the wheels pretty stock looking as well as within legal limits. As the boys in blue look at a car with funny wheels........lets give this guy a defect notice.
I don't disrespect anyone who does have the dorift look its just not my style.

Stay tuned I've just spent all my paint money on something else....

looks like the final spray day will be towards end of summer.....Dodgy day.
