Check some of the US and UK vendors. Some sell new cables with metal parts to replace your broken plastic pieces.
Shiney black one with added red bits. Member of the fart club. Now with extra doof and Sunlong. - deceased and gone to heaven

I have changed the soft top on two of my MX-5s....I will see if I have any left over cables....no promises though.

There are also a number of MX-5 owners in Tassie that are members of the Victorian club. They maybe able to assist you.
