Off comes the sump, I'm afraid. Which means supporting the engine from a hoist, or dropping the k-frame...

It's a bastard of a job.

I swapped the fracking oil pump 3 times before getting it to work properly.

Don't mean to take this OT, but what are the signs to look out for if the oil pump is on the way out?

Pretty much just very low/no oil pressure, or oil pressure that barely varies with RPM.

why did u have to swap it so mannny times??? what was the fault?? the pump itself or the installation?

The pump. Its relief valve seemed to keep sticking, meaning a near permanent bypass of oil flow.
