bigdog wrote:Maxie, there's no substitute for getting it done professionally, and you certainly wouldn't get a finished coat of paint on in a day. You could remove the old filler and refill and prime though. As I said, a black car presents a real challenge to make it look good, and a rough job will look no better than what you have now. You need to think about what you want from the car - if you want it to look good and retain its value then a visit to a panelbeater is recommended. If you want a quick cheap fix then tackle it yourself. Note that filler is cheating anyway, if they are dents they should be removed first. Filler is only used to give a final smooth surface for paint, not to fill dents, so if they are significant a panel shop is the best bet. Any moderately handy person can DIY if they are patient and willing to learn and study the procedures involved. I have taught myself to do a lot of jobs this way - it can be fun, or frustrating depending on how you see things :D

Yeah, thats ok, thanks for the insight.. I think I'll leave it until I come to sell the car and get it fixed then - The filler isnt the only visible problems with the car , and if I start fixing one I wont want to stop ($$$$$$$)

Seriously maxine, I would just wait until you find a straight guard from a wreckers. If you find a black one, it should be same paint code and all that crap. Guards are only $125 new from Mazda so second hand one should only be around the $80 mark. Also grab a stripped door in the same colour and we could transfer the interior part of it. Now THAT would be a good dodgy day project. 8) :D

I'm thinking we rig some lighting, find an out of work hip-hop star (aren't they all) and I'll bring the camera and sound gear home from work - bingo! Pimp My Ride Aussie Style! Watch while we transform Maxine's ride (using the left over bits from STM's makeover) into a show stopping starlet! (the car, not Maxine). Anyone got one of those Fairlady body kits we could use? I might ask Chip Foose to do some concept drawings (for a Fairlady of course), and maybe we could steal the car first and get some hot chick (Agro?) to tell Maxie its been repossesed or something. Bit of hidden camera stuff at Castle Hill Tavern of Max drowning his sorrows and hitting on some rough trade.... I can see an Emmy for this one! :P

We should be able to achieve a result like this (only without the schmick paint job - I'm thinking grey primer with clearcoat  )

i might tag along to get in the road occasionally, that and cause a drain on the communal brain that is this forum. :P

Li7hium: mania is on the way for me, and if irwin83r ends up giving you a lift all the better, means i've someone to follow and therefore blame when we end up hopelessly lost...

Wouldn't high speed and a concrete wall get that 'flat nosed' look of the gold car much quicker?
though probably not as satisfying as a sledghammer granted.
