I would also like to do some really minor body filler work... Is it hard to do? I have mentioned in other threads previously about my drivers side door and front LH 1/4 panel, there is some body filler that is lifting/cracking etc. At the moment I have some wide, black elec tape to keep it all together but it's starting to crack off.
The question is, when I'm painting the small area, do I have to basically repaint the entire panel?
Too hard basket? It would be great if I could fix it, or even cover it up well somehow - As it really makes the car looks ugly......

Hey guys,
My car is going to be stuck at Mania getting work done on its diff and a rollbar install on the BDDD III.
I'd love to come to this to fill in the day. Going to need a lift from and back to Mania though...
Is there anyone willing to go out of there way to help me out?

Happy to point you in the right direction Maxine Bear in mind that you may well find more things to fix when you remove the cracked filler, and once you start down that path you are committed to doing a paint job on some or all of the panels. Being a black car makes it much more critical to get the repairs right or they'll show straight through the paint. You'll need to do some shopping for the right materials before hand. KGP are the local paint place in Emu Plains and stock most of what you'll need.

BD: If this is possible to fix (or at least try to fix) at your place, I'd rather get the dodgy body filler done over the intake, clay baring etc. As I need to do something about it soon (It's starting to rust out probably.
Is this too much work for a dodgy day? I would need a hand from start to finish too, I'm pretty hopeless with most things I just dont want to take up too much of anyones time I suppose, then again I'll probably be the first one there (again ) so I'll be there all day
If it's too much work I'll have to fork out the cash to a smash repairer, (cash that I dont really have, though )
Considering the costs of materials, time and effort needed etc and the possibility of it re-occuring....... Do you think it would be better to just go to a smash repairer (I'm expecting 600-700+ quotes, there's two small-ish places, and I might as well get him to sand a small part of my back bumper back a little (scratches) and repaint that as well
I suppose the worst that can happen is that we totally stuff it and I have to go to smash repairer and get it fixed anyways?
When you say respray the PANELs, do you mean the entire panel? (if so , I dont think we'll be able to get all that done at your house as you dont have a spray booth or anything

Maxie, there's no substitute for getting it done professionally, and you certainly wouldn't get a finished coat of paint on in a day. You could remove the old filler and refill and prime though. As I said, a black car presents a real challenge to make it look good, and a rough job will look no better than what you have now. You need to think about what you want from the car - if you want it to look good and retain its value then a visit to a panelbeater is recommended. If you want a quick cheap fix then tackle it yourself. Note that filler is cheating anyway, if they are dents they should be removed first. Filler is only used to give a final smooth surface for paint, not to fill dents, so if they are significant a panel shop is the best bet. Any moderately handy person can DIY if they are patient and willing to learn and study the procedures involved. I have taught myself to do a lot of jobs this way - it can be fun, or frustrating depending on how you see things
