Mating universal O2 sensor to factory wiring.

Postby mightyrollaman » Wed Sep 27, 2006 7:24 pm

I bought the ACA single wire universal 02 sensor from Repco today for my NA6 and am wondering what the best way to mate it to my factory loom is.

The replacement 02 sensor's wire ends with just a cut and isn't as long as the factory wire. I was thinking of just mating new and old wires together with bullet connectors. Will this do the job or is it imprtant enough to require a solderd connection?

By the way, I bought it for under $40, pays to know people.....

Your bullet connectors will be fine.

And that will make it easier for next time too. Just make sure you do a good job of installing the connectors and the total wire length should be similar to the factory wire length. I dont think it's possible to solder that wire. Isn't it stainless steel or something non-copper based anyway?

My universal one on the MX5 is using bullet connectors. IIRC the wires were a silver colour and solder didn't stick to it. So crimp-on bullet connectors were the only way to do it.

On the Luce I used a spade connector, which was then sealed with thick heat shrink so that it would never ground against the body.

yup, the stainles wires are basically impossible to solder, and solder's less reliable than crimping anyway. Just use a GOOD crimping tool.

I have a spare (used, but functioning) at home - and repco has them for around $80.

I imagine mine's OK. Just not sure how much longer past 125k it should hang in.

ACA ROX201

Has DENSO printed on the body and looks positively identical to the original. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same part, just with a shorter wire, and no connector on the end.

The original has:

ND 065500-1920 B61R 10K

embossed around the body, while the new one has:

DENSO JAPAN 5510 9F

Other than this, the two are identical.
