Well I will be up on stands and without a car for a week!

Radiator was bone dry by the time I got home, so I have to pull it all apart again to see why it is leaking.

There is also a very strange sounding noise coming from what appears to be the water pump, sounds like I've drilled a hole in the exhaust so something is definately not right. Anyone had any experience returning parts to the UK??

Apart from my car being in worse shape than when we started I think the day was an overwhelming sucess.

Thanks especially to UA for hosting, Sabretooth as always for your help, Jules also and Wayne for the wicked wingzz.

See you next dodgy day!!! :P

thanks to Uncle Arthur for hosting a great day. Still can't get over how many 5's were parked under his house, down the driveway, in the front yard and of course all the way down the street!! It was great to meet some more forum members. Thanks also to Andrew for helping me with the gearbox rubber boot and for fixing my glovebox! its bothered me for almost 2 years! and of course thanks to Wayne, wings chef extraordinaire! see you all again at the next one or at my engine swap time!

kitkat, I'll PM you about the lifter. Maybe I can shoot you some $ and you can mail it over. Also, I had a look at the head you gave me and wow  - did that have bent valves or what! Anyway, I'll be yanking apart those lifters and seeing if I can service them during the week. Engine rebuild here I come...

It is also good to see that people learnt the art of sabretooth's patented one-man timing belt alignment! :)

I still have grease under my nails and cuts on my arms. From everyone else's cars but mine! Nothing compared to the potty-mouth Uncle Arthur, who was looking decidedly indigenous after crawling out from under the gearbox. His gearbox alignment issues were (unfortunately for him) an absolute cack to listen to. *shake rattle bump bump bump IT WON'T @#*@*# GO IN AAARHGHHHH*

Thanks again for attending and making Saturday an awesome display of supreme dodginess.

Yes Sabre is right - there were some expletives I uttered from under the car  and if anyone was scared, frightened or offended I am truly sorry.... grease in the eyes and bolts that just wont seat will get that reaction from me everytime........

I'm still scrubbing grease out from my fingernails, and I've discovered cuts on my hands I never knew existed until the soap hits them..... I think I'm also still rinsing bits of grease, dirt and undercar gunk from my eyes too.....

I have one more thing to do to mine now to get it working properly - the clutch travel/pickup isn't quite right, so it's back to the spanners I go.....can anyone advise exactly where on pedal travel the clutch should be picking up? The last thing I want is for the clutch to be slipping all the time because of poorly adjusted pedal travel..... :?: :?: :?:

I also spent parts of yesterday doing the bling work I missed out in doing Saturday, so the turbo housing and all its various bits are starting to look appropriately shiny :D I'll start to organise some photos soon..... speaking of - who has all the pics from Sautrday?

So who's in for the next dodgy, and what's on the cards???? :D

Expressions of interest for Dodgy Day III should be put up this week!
I believe it will involve at least an engine change and diff replacement.

I've been trying the Photoshop web automator, so hopes it works here.
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~malibu91/dodgy2/index.htm

I don't know if I could add anything that already hasn't been said.

FRIGGEN MAGIC!!!!!

I am so very sore from that gearbox. My pecs hurt, my shoulders hurt, my fingers are cut and I'm still pulling grease and spicey wing bits out of my teeth. Nirvana.

Mikey. You are the man! You are King Dodgy I. Massive thanks go to you and your beautiful Fiance Jen for the endless hospitality. Let me know when you guys are free for a \"civil\" meal.

Yes, my car was both fixed and bits snapped, but it's all good. I reckon the original inlet cam looked a tooth off when removed and Malibu now drives like it's on steroids, so I guess that must have been the case!

Big thanks to Wayne for the new Voodoo knob. Very nice indeed! Also a big thanks for the great job on the indicator lenses. I was only semi-aware of what was going on, as I had my head under both my car and Mikey's. That swearing you were hearing Sabre wasn't just Mikey! I'll be glad not to do another clutch.

Sabre, thanks for the huge effort on Malibu (the fixing bit). I don't think you downed tools all day. The car is running so sweetly now. A quick blast on the M1 removed the lifter noise. I remember Mikey's doing this after his belt change. I think it has something to do with the air getting in when the valve cover is off for a stretch. Huge thanks also to Kam who spent big time on the car. I've pulled the buggered a/c hose and will have it replaced ASAP along with the thermo sensor. I'll get a price Sabre then call you about your \"spare\", depending on how much it is. Many thanks for the offer via SMS.

The wingggzzz and sauce.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Have to be tasted to fully appreciate. Sweet sauce of Satan sent to tempt me.

An amazing day. Total enjoyment (except for the gearbox). I didn't have too much time to look around but it looked like everyone was having a fun day. Such positive energy and goodwill everywhere, reminded me how great people can be!

Jules

PS: So far on the list for BSDDIII is, from memory.

Mikey: TURBO fitment!!!
Red5: Engine swap, paint buffing, attempted egg damage repair
Jules: Fluid changes, clutch, brakes, diff, gearbox, possible shifter boot replacement, accept Mikey's kind offer of a bling AFM.
Rhys: Diff, I think
Rogue: Water pump (again)
Monsqueak: Window cable
Kam: Timing belt/water pump.

Hey! That's a pretty good list, and I think for BSDDIII we may even have royalty in town from purgatory down South.....Yes the \"Emperor of Bling\" himself may be making a special appearance!

More info?

Uncle Arthur wrote:can anyone advise exactly where on pedal travel the clutch should be picking up?

Mine takes up about 2/3 pedal travel from the floor but it has done 150,000km. About 1/3 to 1/2 travel from the floor would be good for a new clutch. The old hydraulics might not be up to the task if it's a heavy spring pressure plate.

Thanks for hosting the day UA

Was great to meet everyone and put faces to names and learn some of the do's AND don'ts when working on these cars :D

If anyone finds a couple of extra spanners in their toolbox I'm missing a 10mm and 12mm Metrinch openend/ring spanners :(
