not coil packs!!

hey guys

well... good news is i got new coil packs of mania and installed them.. all went well.

but... the problem still remains!!! :evil: so im 500 bucks down and my car still dosnt run proper :frown:

as mentioned in the last thread. it runs fine when cold but once its well and truely warm it misses and the tacho go spastic when your under (and only when under) load or heavy acceleration above 4500rpm.

i was told it could be

spark leads - which are reasonably new good quality ones

spark plugs - fairly new iridiums NGK

coil packs - now brand new

alternator - no idea

battery - dont think so. car starts fine..

fuel filter - would this make the tacho go nuts??

injectors - no idea

ecu - not sure.. though the pass foot well did get rather wet when my AC drain pipe came off... but wouldnt this be more a working or not working thing???

anyone else got any ideas???? i was hoping to get the car working properly for the track day... starting to look like ill be just limping there and begging someone to fix my car :cry:

its gotta be electrical to send the tach nutz irwin, did you investigate everything in the wet area of the car???

not really mate.

just figured if it was that sort of short it would be rooted out right fromt he water dmg... i might pull things apart tomorrow if the weathers good, my brothers and dads cars are in the garage in bits at the moment so havent got a place to work on things :?

sometimes it only takes one connection to get a bit rusty after a dousing to make things go haywire mate, specially with these computerised demons we drive :)

before you do pull things apart...

check your fuel filter, i had an injected bluebird once (180sx engine) where the filter got blocked and any sort of load above 2nd gear would cause the car to convulse (almost) like it was hitting the rev limiter...

it could be worth a try, otherwise try some other leads (if you have the old ones about)

wheres the filter located exactly?

any tricks to removal?

The Filter is located under the car Just behide your ASS :)
Hidden buy a plastic cover Would be worth a try

by ASS i asume you mean the thing i sit on and thats not short for something like CAI or CAS. :)

Ass = American for bum :)

I'd still try a new set of OEM (or any) plug leads and plugs. Check in the plug wells for oil/moisture. I think that if it's breaking down under load it's most likely a high tension electrical problem and not an ECU or low tension thing.

If you get a new set of leads and plugs and that doesn't fix it , you'll have a couple of years supply of leads and plugs available - they won't go off so the money won't be wasted and that system will be eliminated as a cause.

Also make sure there are no dodgy connections to the MAS on that after market intake system you have and that the sensor is clean and not covered in an oil film.

Then you can start looking at fuel.

the intake sensors are standard. will make sure its all plugged in and clean like you said. im not sure where my old plug leads are... hmm. and funds are getting lower and lower :shock:

is it possible the motor is sucking too hard on the vacume line and getting oil from the valve cover???

since i have a short cold side intake my vacume line goes onto the elbo which is just infront of the throttle body.. would this be a problem?? :|

a bit of oil wouldnt make things go funny like that though would it? bah.. cant see how that would make this problem..

ill head off soon and buy some cheap OEM leads as mine have gone walk about :? unless somone in the wollonong area can swap me for mine for afew min to see if the problem goes

im a noob, a fool, a silly bugga... and what ever else anyone can think to throw my way :P

i went and bought new spark plugs and almost bought new leads but didnt see any that would fit so gave them a miss.

anyway i got home pulled out the old plugs which i thought were fine since they arent that old and they are iridiums.... which i was told were good for ages anyway.. and low and be hold... the plugs are burnt out... not totaly but yeah... they arnt as new as i thought :roll:

so in with the new ones and i guess ill see how they go tomorrow at wake field

so if anyone needs a coilpack for an NB8A i have a brand new one that i will be taking off and putting my old one back in so i can put this new one either up for sale or on the shelf till i need it. :roll:

Baah, don't beat yourself up irwin83r.....although you thoroughly deserve it :mrgreen: .

The main thing is, has it stopped missing under load now?

Yes, oil on the MAS can cause false airflow readings to the ECU and then the wrong fuel signals get sent - like maybe not enough fuel.

Your not stupid, those plugs should last for ages as you said! :?

Glad I refused them at my last service, prefer the normal jobbies that get turfed and renewed more often! 8)
