Preparing the Missus's 5 for Trackdays..
Ok, my partner is keen to do some performance driving courses and trackdays, was planning on prepping her car for her, and hoping to keep the tab as low as possible. The car is a 91 NA6, Approx 200k klms and in all round pretty crappy condition........ so before taking it out to the track was planning on below
1. Replace Brake Pads / Fluid
2. Change Shocks / Springs ( replace worn OEM with KYB GR-2 and Used Tein S-tech)
3. Change tyres (at the moment sporting really crappy chinese tyres on standard rims) Recommendations please for 185/60/14 daily driver and weekend toy (looks like A539 dont come in this size any more)
4. Change coolant , oil and filters, check plugs and leads
5. Alignment
6. Fit front and rear lower braces
7. fit mild steel 2.25in cat back
I reckon i can do the lot for 2k. Appreciate your feedback on what i may have overlooked in prepping this car for the track...
Cheers

Cheeky bugger
This thing is an absolute nugget, so anything more than the basics are wasted on this car......and i know what happens when you get the power bug. A Greddy would scratch the itch for all of 2 days

i'M WITH mATTY ON THIS ONE. sCREW MODS, JUST STICK IN AN EXTINGUISHER, CHECK THE OIL AND FLUIDS AND AWAY YOU GO.
Been running my wife's totally stock NB MX5 for over a year now and am loving belting a stocker on road tyres. If you look up Vic club times you will see that it is usually one of the 2 or 3 fastest cars at most track days and it's done 130k's and has rooted shocks and was even run at one meet sans front swaybar which made for some interesting handling!!!

Roll bar, something like the Brown Davis is a good start.
Harness, helps you do more driving and less bracing.
Good comfortable well venting helmet.
On the days themselves …
Non Synthetic Clothing (long sleeve and long pants)
Thin/Flat soles enclosed shoes.
An extra 10% psi in your wheels.
If you have one of those silly license plates that block the \"mouth\" remove it or turn it upwards.
Take everything out of the car and glove box.
Bring plenty of water or \"energy drinks\" to drink between blats around the track.
Make sure she knows to keep an eye on her temperature gauge and has lots of laps with a good instructor. That way she will start track driving with the right techniques instead of learning bad habits.
Give her loads of encouragement, the track can be a daunting experience.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
