Coloured dots on factory springs

Postby Garry » Mon Sep 11, 2006 1:32 pm

Does anyone know what the coloured dots painted on the springs mean. I know they are an indication of spring rates but which coloured dots belonged to which model car?

My NB8B has two lime green dots on each front spring. I went to get some new used ones from Mania on the weekend and they said they'd never seen lime green dots before and gave me some springs with red dots instead telling me they were probably off an RS they had wrecked. Does anyone else with an NB8B have lime green dots and does anyone know if the red dots belong to the RS? Also, what colour dots do the NB8A's use.

Cheers

Veeery interesting Garry! :?
I've just checked my NC springs out of interest.
The fronts are 2 red dots and the rears are 1 white 1yellow.
I have no idea what it means.
You've got me thinking though.

Thanks irwin83r

Left to right are the same, front and back should have different coloured dots. The rear springs are longer and the spring wire is slightly smaller diameter.

I have RS spec bilsteins and springs, I'll get out the flashlight and have a look (they suggested my springs looked like clubmans, they aren't that hard tho)

Thanks Steve.

I'd like to know what the red dot springs came off. The good people at Mania weren't exactly sure.

Well it took me long enough didn't it, by I had my (I must say excellent) new eibachs fitted today to my bilsteins and thus the springs are now out of the car. The front ones have one blue dot each and the rears two white dots each which I guess doesn't help you that much. I was told by simone at the time that my shocks and these springs which were standard on the RS where from a 2001 model.

Sorry bout the delay but I was pretty short of time at the time you posted being in the process of leaving my current job after many many years and going to a new one (involving weekend work etc) and this kind of slipped my mind.

Hope your springs are ok, are they on the car now?
