NA Glove box adjustment for rattle?

Help - my glovebox rattles, if I leave the glove box open the rattle stops.

Is there an adjustment on the latch - I can't find any?

Count yourself lucky, i can't close mine at all. I ended up taking it out, cause you can't have open glovebox on your passengers lap all the time... :cry:

I need to go to a dodgy day to fix it...

Back to the point, i don't think there is an adjustment for it... Maybe yours is breaking like mine did. :shock:

I stuck some of that foam tape around the edges on my NA6 - that seemed to do the trick.

There's no adjustment, although you could check that the screws underneath are tight (probably won't fix the problem though).

The latch wire is easy to bend. If you're lucky bending it may fix your problem. However if you bend it to far you might find the door is hard to shut. Just bend it back a little in the opposite direction.

Otherwise try Mr_Q's suggestions. Check to see that the screws on the latch and hinges are tight and add some foam. Though I found over time the foam would compress and it would start rattling again.

Thanks for the ideas, I've wrapped insulation tape around the wire latch, if that doesn't work will try the good old foam tape!

Mine does exactly the same thing. I'll go have a play at fixing it today I think, it's been on my list for a while

I had the problem and just went to bunnings to get some rubber stops (about $3.50 for a packet of 15)

They are used to stop glass from smashing against hard surfaces (eg shower screens)

I just stuck them on the glove box, just where the surface of the glove box meets the factory rubber stopper. The glovebox still shuts fine and Ive managed to get rid of the squeak because it now closes firmly in place.

I may have a few more stoppers - Maybe I can put it up on the mx-5 parts for free page

I went and started my car so I could listen for it and it didnt do it

I think it usually does it at night when the car has been sitting in the cold at work for 6 hours, then when I start it at 11:15pm I can really hear the glovebox buzzing, maybe it idles differently when its cold compared to now (seems like a nice 22 degrees atm)

Yeah I did that for a while too but I had problems finding it... I think the car just knows that you are just waiting for the fault to happen so it just holds back...

The squeak only happens when Im driving along a road with a few bumps here and there... or on grooved roads...

After applying these plastic thingies the other day I havent heard one squeak so it must have worked

Mine only does it at idle when its coooold.

I did get rid of the rattly window today, greased all the rails. Just need to clean the switches now... Also padded out where the interior light switches in the doors contact the body so that the light doesnt flash when I hit a bumpy corner in the hills at night, thats damn annoying

I had a rattle around the instrument cluster hood and as i was tapping it ... and yes you've probably guessed ... IT BROKE !!!

I'm going to try and repair it and have it resprayed...

but at least i fixed one rattle... it's located behind the glovebox.. a metal bracket/seal for the air duct which was loose.. all it needed was new foam tape

... still disappointed about the instrument cluster hood though.. can't afford to replace it atm..
