i recently did the DIY chrome vent rings, and for a couple of bucks the difference is HUGE!

i am waiting for it to stop raining and i will do the door-handle-cup too...

i think that it is a heaps better idea for a sh*t weekend rather than paying for the chromies, and you always get the feeling of \"i did that\" when you get in it!

Usually I don't have a 'scared I'm gonna break it' type of feeling. Usually it's just annoyance that the bits don't come apart as easy as I'd like :P

Once it gets sunny and I have a quiet weekend at home, I'll get some pictures up. Have to admit, it definitely does look the goods. Shame my original trim bits were a little bit scratched/chipped from the previous owner, because they show up a little bit more when the trim is silver rather than black.

Nice bits sharyl :D
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well, the weather's looking good, so after lunch I'll take some pics and put them up.

I'm also gonna stick the bose speakers (amp & tweeters as well) in so we'll see how we all go. No extra bling with the speakers besides the sound though, which doesn't really show up on camera :P

Are we talking about pulling out the vent (ie the surround) or the eyeballs vets (ie the crosshair round bit that you can move around and what I'll refer to eyeballs from now to really differentiate between the two).

I tried pulling my eyeballs out ( ) but it didn't seem to work. Tried it with the coathanger trick, but they seemed awful tight, so gave up. Keep in mind I was yanking fairly hard.

As for the vents, if you get at it with a flathead screwdriver, to the eyeball vents come out with it? I was under the impression there was a screw or something that held the vent in place, and that screw was located behind the eyeball. In other words, you needed to remove the eyeball before you could remove the vent itself.

Suggestions? Corrections?

The easiest (and best way so as to not crack/scratch the vent surrounds) is the coat hangar hook method. Hook it behind the whole vent and pull it out straight.

The vent rings are a bit tricky - there's little lugs around the vents - you have to be a bit careful as they feel they will break, but they will pup - it is easiest to use one of the little micro flathead screwdrivers - you'll work out how to do it when you see them.

Otherwise - wait a week and I'll post pics from dodgy day II - I'm redoing mine.

^^^
Thanks for that, but I already did it all two weeks ago :P
I must say, it all worked out really well. I've just taken pictures too, and they go something like this (images 800x600):

I only took the 4 pictures, but that basically says it all

As in the ones above the vents? If you take the vents out, you can just push from underneath and they come out real easy. The problem is getting the vents out in the first place. But if you've done the vents before, then at least you know how to do it.

They're a lot harder to get out than people make out. It took quite a bit of jamming of screwdrivers and yanking of coat hangers to finally get them to pop out.
