DAAaaAA DID I DO BAD BOSS??

Postby rjr666 » Fri Sep 08, 2006 12:45 pm

While drilling the sump for the turbo, I kinder managed to drill thru a Copper Tray that sits behind the sump. I didnt go very far as my 14.5mm drill bit has been made in to a shorty so I could use a 90degree drill attachment to get down the side of the enginebay.

I kinda shat myself for a few minutes wondering what it was... so as you do, I started to pull the sump of a BP engine I have sitting in the garage to check what it was. Seems to be a Tray to drain in the oil back to the sump after its been hit on the pistons. This copper tray already has some holes already holes cut in from factory. So i pressume one extra one isnt going to make much diffrence. unless anyone can tell me otherwise

And this is the copper thing i put a hole in :?

Now That I can get back on the site I can tell you Don't worry
that tray is called a WINDAGE TRAY it is to catch the oil flung off the crank
an extra hole will make F*^k all differance.
Just keep going on the install and Join the TURBO club :D

thanks Russell B,

i was pulling the gear box off today to change the clutch to handel the power, and then saw some oil, looks like rear seal is gone.

THen i looked at it again, and thought wat the hell lets pull the motor out, bite the bullet and put some lower compresson pistons in and have all the motor re-done and do things properly first time. so I wont come back in 3months time and have to pull it all out.

4hours later motor is out and on the floor. and my parents saying...what the hell are you doing???

U drain the oil out previously to drilling the hole,

once drill poor white spirits down the hole to flush out any bits of alloy.

BUt now ive pulled my motor out ill be really able to get rid of that swaf lol
