Installing Magnecor Leads

Finally recieved the Magnecor Leads yesterday after MX5Mania sent them Express Post last Wed then Aust Post lost them, so much for guaranteed over night delivery

Installing them was not the simple plug and go that it should be :shock:

The rubber boot at the coil end is too big and the connector pokes out too far from the boot so I had to wrap the coil end with insulation tape to build it up enough for the boot to seal properly to keep moisture etc out.

The spark plug end was impossible to push down on the plug correctly. It felt like it only just clipped onto the very tip of the plug and with the slightest upward pressure it would pop off.
I remember reading on here that someone (Garry ?) had one come off while driving and had to cut the end of the rubber boot.
I've cut about 10mm off and they fit better but still don't feel positive when you push them on as the rubber bends.
I'm considering taping some aluminium strips down each side to prevent the bending.

I have the 8mm Blue leads on a NB8B

The good news is they appear to have fixed the miss/lack of power problem

Yeah, I had the same problem. The boot was to long so there wasn't enough room for the clip to clip properly on the plug. The lead also moved through the boot so it's hard to get enough force on the lead to clip over the plug. In the end the boot ended up stuck on the plug and the lead would move freely inside the boot not connecting with the plug at all. I think David from Mania recomends opening up the clip a little so that it slides over the plug easier. Probably best to ring Simone to see what she says before you start butchering things to much.

I think the leads are rubbish. I got a refund from Simone and switched back to the genuine Mazda leads. Clip clip clip clip finished. To easy.

Magnecors are made by hand at their shop in Lidcombe in Sydney and it's possible I guess that they used the wrong-sized ends.

My old set fitted perfectly, with a really distinct, loud and satisfying \"CLICK!!\" when you plugged them in. I'd say return them for another set.

I found the Thundercords website and have spoken to Neil about the problem.
I'll be taking some photo's tonight and sending them to him.
We'll see what happens from there.

Mine fitted pretty much spot on as well, I have the reds though . Also cured my misfire and will last longer than the factory ones I hear...

Sent some photo's to Neil at Thundercords

Turns out they have always made them with these fittings for the SVT engine and no one has ever advised them they don't fit correctly :shock:

He will be contacting MX5Mania to see if they can get a SVT engined car to work on so they can sort out the problems and make them correctly in the future.

Well they now know and will be talking to Simone about getting a SVT engined car to work with to sort out the problems.

Hopefully I'll get a set of leads that fit correctly and so will anyone buying them in the future

I have recieved the following email from Neil at Thundercords

Hi Kim,

well, I have finally, thanks to your efforts, had a look at an SVT engine.

The coil ends are easily fixed, as I have a boot that is, if anything, a touch too tight, but better that than the large gap on your current ends.

The plug end, however, is another issue. Unfortunately, the original spec. I had for these came from nothing more than a couple of measurements off the engine. I am looking into finding a better fit, and will get back to you with more info as it comes to hand.

If you would be so good as to pass this on via the forum etc, I would appreciate it.

If anyone else has any questions on the matter, I have no problem answering individuals either through you, or by email.
