Probably a broken cable. Some info and photos here. Try a search on this website too.

About the 5th one I heard of Breaking a cable in the last month
Replacment cables can be bought at mazda and are easy enough to install
You have to remove the whole motor and slider thingy then the old cables
can be rmoved and the new ones intalled in reverse order

Yep - very likely the cables. It's fairly common on the older cars. There are two on each side and they're around $40 - $45 each (from memory). As a bonus they'll make your windows work faster than they probably have for a long time. :D

The important thing is not to try using your windows until they're fixed. If you keep playing with the button you'll just tangle the broken cable more and possibly burn out the window motor. :(
