Pretty sure Col has a 10AE so it's a 195/50/15 compared to a 205/45/16, hence the price difference. I've just fitted Toyo T1R's to the front of my NB8B and I love them, and all for $170 a tyre, and they look good too! Only problem is they're on back order for a week or two but at least they'll be freshly made stock!

I paid $230 per corner, fitted, with helium, 18 months ago for the Preceda I's on my NB from BJ's.

For what it's worth I think the Michelins are the best tyre for the money on a MX5. Sure you can pay less but then you get less.

Why did you buy an MX5? To get a great handling car or a cheap drive?

If you want a great handling MX5 you need a tyre that communicates whatâ€™s happening with the 1100kg lump of metal youâ€™re driving and the road then the Michelins do the trick. Instant turn in, progressive break away in extreme conditions, good grip in the wet and quite on the road.

Yes you can go and buy DOT spec, semi race tyres that hang on and on but for a daily drive they are impracticable and short lived.

Why possibly risk your life on a cheap $130 tyre when for a bit extra you can get something that performs better and lasts longer?

Is it possible that "Col" had 15's or 14's and you've got 16's or 17's? Wheel size makes a huge a huge difference. The bigger the wheels, the less rubber in the tyres for the same rolling diameter and width, therefore the more you pay. Quite logical, I don't think.

Yes, I do have 16\" rims but didn't know that would account for the big difference in price. I thought maybe that it was just because we get ripped off living in the bush, not that I'd change that for one minute to go back to living in Melbourne again. The only thing wrong with living in this area though is that the only time we can find a corner is at a roundabout.

I got my Preceda 2's in 16\" for just under $220/ tyre with a $50 Myers gift certificate thrown in a few months ago if that helps. And I still love the Preceda 2's after close to 10,000km. They do everything I want them to do very well.

PS Dont feel ripped off living in the country, it's easy to be ripped off in the city too. I was quoted $290/tyre from one inner city tyre shop. :shock:

I got Preceda 2's about 2 mnth's ago. They are great on dry roads but I found them a little soft feeling on the track. :frown:

However all is forgiven after taking them for a drive on wet roads yesterday. UNBELEIVABLE. No oversteer or understeer

I payed $225 after ringing every tyre shop on the Gold Coast. Jax at ashmore. The advantage with them is they gave me a trade in for my old tyres.

Rather not start another thread so I'll add my question here:

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to get the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's or the Toyo T1-R's. I have the F1's at the front and they're pretty good, but I can get the T1-R's for around $20 less per tyre. I only need 2 new rear tyres as they are getting old and hard.

Size is 205/45R16 and strict budget of under $200, so if you reckon there's something better for the price, I'm will to have a look.

Ask around. I got quoted $210 from one place and as low as $165 from another place. 205/45R16. I'll be getting them in the next week or so

Got mine for $170 each
