That's alright steve818, it was just a simple way for you to understand that the 1.6 gets more serious mods than the what the 1.8 does.
no need to be sorry,
if you couldn't be bothered with insurance and engineering certificate then the 1.8 might be viable

*do you need to engineer a 1.8 conversion?

i would find it a complete waste of money just dropping a 1.8 motor in unless it is for race purpose or your going to build a serious monster. other than that a turbo 1.6 versus a stock 1.8.... i know where my money went.

but that's just my opinion and also what the majority of people that own a 1.6 have done :) that have done serious mods

***BTW how did your paint job end up. last you said you were putting 2 coats of marine paint on or something down those lines.

Something like this ..

Image

1.7lt hi compression, cams, quads, oversized valves ....
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

mmmm

basically it always ends up this way. How much money are we talking???

unlimited money? the 1.8 will be your best bet, but if money wasnt an option you wouldnt just drop it in bog stock, it would be a 2L turbo motor with forged internals running over 20 psi.

but if you looking for bang for buck smack a turbo on it and be done with it.

there are plenty of bolt on kits out the for the 1.6 but only afew for the 1.8s and as some one mentioned before the 1.6's are alot cheaper so if something dose go wrong... u get boost hungry :D... it will be cheaper to replace the motor :)
