I think I'm still gonna get a set of R888s soon though for the track rims and whack the 615s back onto the stocko rims for day to day.
Probably a good decision... the 615 by most accounts is not a track tyre. Not exactly sure why... but there you go, some tyre can look good (in theory) but lack performance to match their looks...
FWIW, I fitted R888 just over a week ago onto the OEM SE 17" rims and am having a pretty hard time of it in the commute (road rims and tyres are on their way to the rescue - thanks Conchaae
)...
They are incredibly grippy though!!! And combined with the low profile, squirm is virtually non-existent on the road. I have a favourite set of corners that I normally go thru at a 'fun' pace, and whereas previously on the Conti SC2s, I'd have a little movement mid corner and on exit as the throttle is applied, I get absolutely nothing now... rock solid!!!
Literally... it bounces around like a rock as it scrambles for grip on the bumpy Sydney roads and as you call upon the grip of the tyre around a set of bends, the steering is constantly fighting you because of all that extra grip... especially since there's hardly any flex in the sidewalls...
It's gonna be a great set of track day tyres, but I would definitely steer clear of them for road use... and at $430 a tyre, you bloody well have to too unless you're a closet millionaire...
