New Pirellis For Max

Getting these Pirellis fitted tomorrow.

seriously good tyre JB............Pirellis answer to the Michelin Preceda.......they'll feel a bit squirmy for the first 3- 400 k's from what i'm told, but after that they stick like baby sh*t to a blanket :mrgreen:

Well I'll tell you as well :shock: .

First impressions (not fair after just 50 km), compared to the Turanzas, are that they:

1. feel harder, like they're pumped up an extra 10 psi (they're not); and
2. are quite slippery - checked over my mini test area.

Bwahaha........I can't even eat other MX-5s :lol: :roll: I did find out a few things yesterday that might help me a bit next month though.

My boss recently replaced the Dragons on his SV6 with Precedas and loves the Precedas. He said the Precedas have a smoother quieter ride and better wet weather grip.
Shiney black one with added red bits. Member of the fart club. Now with extra doof and Sunlong. - deceased and gone to heaven

Put the Dragons onto Mrs CB's Mazda 6, 215x40x17 at $200 per corner.
Found the same as JBT. Very firm ride compared to the Turanzas that were on it, noisier too.

I don't think they're the answer to Precedas as the Dragons are the bottom of Pirelli's performance range.

Maybe not the answer to Precedas but they're in the same category as the P Zeros etc. in the ultra high performance range CB. Might get better with age :?

Well, I've run up 600km on these tyres and they are pretty well bedded in now. I feel (on my mini test route) that they are every bit as grippy as the Turanzas were. However, the ride is significantly harsher than with the Turanzas - a bit like the 60 series A539s on the original 14\" wheels.

I've tried a few different pressures and feel that I'm getting the best results at 31-32psi cold. It'll be interesting to see how they go at track day in a few weeks.

Yep, and I'm hoping you're right about them sticking like the proverbial AJ. Track day will be a good test..........at least I can spear off the track without banging into anybody should I inadvertently pass the adhesion limit :shock:

I had a set of P Zero Neros and loved them... right until they went off after almost 5000k's... after that they were just bad and in the wet were bordering on downright dangerous.

Went and put Michellin Pilot Sports on there and love them. they arent perfect, but so much of a step up over the Pirellis...

also much quieter!
