hey guys,
my heatshield on my extractors has a massive crack in it and so it rattles like crazy. im going to take it off today so i was just wondering if its cool to leave the shield off - what im trying to ask is will it bugger up or melt my intake (mania intake and plastic pod shield) in anyway? should i just wrap them with some thermo wrap or will they be fine without the shielding and/or thermo wrap?
Heatshield on extractors - need advice

I lost my heat shield when I put extractors on (the shield didn't fit). I never bothered with thermal wrap or anything else. It was fine with the Mania intake.
Some kind of heat sheilding certainly wouldn't hurt, but don't lose sleep over it.

I took off the heatshield...but man what a MASSIVE difference in temperatures under there. After just a 5 minute drive i popped open the hood and the heat was crazy. I couldn't even touch my pod fitler/pod filter plastic shield it was that hot...I wouldn't be suprised if it would start melting if I took a longer drive. I don't know whether or not to put the heatshield back on...I really don't want the heat to melt my plastic pod shield/mania intake and the heatsoak in it would b nasty anyway, i guess it would cancel out the cold air from the intake haha. In a bit of a pickle as to whether I should drive it tonight and see if it melts the plastic pod shield or if I should put th eheatshield back on.....

Hmm - I certainly didn't have that problem. Maybe the extractors sat a bit lower or dissipated heat better or something.
I'm not sure if we've got any spare heat shields at Mania, but I'll be in there tomorrow swapping my suspension over and can have a look if you like.

Mmmm my pod shield gets so hot it feels like its going to melt i cant touch it. But i went to a local exhaust place today and bought some thermo heat wrap ... 6 metres for $45. I'll put it on tonight...any suggestions of how to fit it to extractors? I was guessing just to spray it lightly with water, wrap it around and use a radiator hose clamp to clamp it on at the ends of it? ANyone else got any ideas?
