Fan switch on thermostat housing

Postby ZenArcher » Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:17 pm

I broke the fan sensor/switch that goes into the top of the thermostat housing in a NA6 today. Does anyone know if this is a generic part that I can buy from Repco or some Motor Spares place or if I will have to go genuine?

Also does anyone else know if there is another thermostat housing the same at the NA6 that fits this switch but has the outlet facing a different angle so that the outlet is parallel to the front of the engine?

I am trying to fit a Na8 cross over intake onto my 1.8 conversion and it can be done. But I either need to replace the thermostat housing so that the outlet is at a different angle. (cross over intake fouls on the outlet) or get the heat gun out to modify the plastic intake a little. I would rather replace the thermostat housing.

Did some shopping around for the thermofan switch today. Interesting price range difference.

Repco (or should I say RipOffCo) $60
Autopro $50
Autobarn $35

Didn't bother to price genuine, at the local Mazda dealership they don't have seats to sit on

But I did go to the Mazda dealer the other day to price one of their genuine gear shift knobs (for interest) wish I had the chair to sit on then  The quoted price was $395 for a gear knob

I've learnt to not buy locally unless I -really- have to. $101 for a top radiator hose from Repco? Hah! www.mx5parts.co.uk have heaps of gear and will respond + deliver extremely quickly.

While it's not going to be worth it in your case just for a thermoswitch, if you have a bunch of other parts to get then it might be worth giving them a try.
