Urgent Advice needed RE: Tyres

Here is what happened to mine running too many psi.

Oh wow. How far into the tyres lifecycle did it start to deteriorate? The tyres on here are Toyo Proxes FZ4 and are only a few months old. The rest of the tread is almost like new.

I think they have about 40,000 kms on them, I dropped the pressure a bit once I started to realise it was causing the damage ... but I do love some \"spirited\" driving.

What pressure and camber were you runing? bear in mind 40K of spirited driving would normally wear out the inside of any front tyre running a bit of neg camber regardless of tyre pressure...

and Bevan, you can see what happens when they wear thru in Okibi's pic - the little white patch. Untill you start to see something like that they're safe, especially on the back where you run less neg camber.

I'm in the middle of that email right now. Asking a fair bit more than $150 as well. Just writing an email with pictures attached so he know what I mean and i'll give him a call on Thursday or Friday, unless it's resolved before then.

Also looking up the ebay rules regarding misleading listings in case he doesn't want to cooperate. Two of the rims also have gutter scrathes but in the listing it says "very good condition".

Looks fine to me. I think they use nylon belts nowadays, not wire.

Yup, just ask for some money back. The tread does not look 'near new'.

Okibi, the wear in pic 3 doesn't look like over-inflation to me. Over-inflation leads to the tread crowning, ie wearing more heavily in the centre of the tread (pic 2 shows pretty normal tread wear). Neither does it look like an alignment (camber, toe) wear pattern. My guess is its a fitment issue, perhaps arising from the offset you are using - rubbing somewhere on full lock?

Bruce, steel belts are still used by some manufacturers.

There is a bolt that protrudes into the wheel well from the engine bay which can trace a groove on a tyre (on my NB8A). However the tyre needs to basically be rubbing on the top of the wheel well before contact is made with the tyre.

That'd be great thanks! I thought overinflation wore the middle of the tyre out though? Or does it get that hot that the inside peels away with the camber?

I thought the middle of the tyre wore with over inflation too? As far as I am aware inside tyre wear is from too much camber and sometimes (but less often) scrubbing.

Unfortunately I think getting you're tyres set up perfectly for cornering re wheel alignment/tyre pressure does not set it up to wear evenly as most of the time you are not flying around a corner...

It is the fact that it is a "groove" that suggests it isn't wear. I'd get some of your money back for sure!

Just got one more wheel to clean while they're off the car. should have them on the car tomorrow morning sometime and will host some pics.
