Turbo TD04H reco + manifold and dump $650
microtech LT8s $650 (secondhand)
reconfigure ecu $380
440 injectors plus plugs $525 (new)
inter-cooler + piping $600 (new)
spark plugs $31.80 (new)
extra wiring $380
Dyno $500
Labour from Maztech $455
miscellaneous $400

total $4571.80

if i had my time again i would have bought the ecu brand new for i think $1100 which would have my base map already on it :)
i also did this project over a very long time so it wasn't one mass hit to the wallet.
i had my ecu for a very long time before i got the project underway. i should have dropped the ecu in first before the turbo just to get the electrics right first.
i have no regrets with how much it cost as the feeling is awesome
i hope this covers all the questions.

big thanks to Sean as well for helping so much. all the wiring was right mate, it was just my dodgy workmanship

Another related question:
Hypothetically speaking, if one were to turbo-fy their car without acquiring engineering paperwork, is still possible to get it insured? 8)

I cannot imagine any insurer covering a car which is not legal.

If you don't declare the modifications, and you have a prang, the inspection of your engine bay will show you have a turbo that isn't listed.... Insurance VOID!

I may be wrong, and if I am, then fantastic, lets go crazy 8)

Microtech - $1200
Installation - $380
Tuning - $500
Total - $2080 (excluding towing) ?

Microtech $1095 brand new (if you pay retail)
Installation $250 (P+P harness if you give up the old ECU)

Total = $1345 + Tuning.

I've left out tuning cause it can cost anythiong from a carton of beer to over a grand, if you budget $500 you'd expect to get change, as Glen said, the $500 for him included some other fault finding and related work.

I'd recommend anyone going this route budget on teh high side though, say $2500 to account for things you may run into like fuel pump, or extra installation if you don't want to go P+P.

my tip for modified car insurance... drive a car you are able to crash (with most value being salvagable (motor, suspension etc)...

insure 3rd party.

worked out once so far.
