Queensland Challenge Classic Rally - Aug 26

Postby Ted » Mon Jul 17, 2006 10:39 am

Its that time of year again. In 6 weeks we will see a large number of cars line up against the clock and each other over some classical driving roads. Originally put together by Marc Zande, this event morphed from the Leyburn rally and has become a pretty full on driving day. Last year we saw 67 crews start, we expect it will be well subscribed again this year.

The Queensland Challenge will be run over 1 day, taking in over 300kms of driving with speed subevents added. Navigate your way from one to the other, then strap on the helmet and forget about the speedo. Road cars are welcome as the times are against the clock rather than running door handle to door handle.. All you need is the minimal in safety gear and the want to have some fun.

For this year, we have up to 8 speed events planned for the day. Of course this is dependant on getting to OK from all the venues and authrorities and we are doing our best to ensure this happens. We have mapped out the route and it promises some excellent navigation stages for both driver and navigator. IF you are a novice navigator, do not fear as tihs event does not have a reputation of getting people lost. If you are thinking of entering, watch this space as I will make sure we post the supp regs and entry form when they are ready.

The other thing we need to ensure that this works is a handful of volunteers to help out on the day. If you are interested in motorsport (whether as a spectator or future competitor) then donate your day or even half a day for some excellent spectating and helping keep this event going. Grab a couple of mates or fellow forumites, and comment through the day on how you would be faster than all the cars out there. Bring your cameras and video cameras too, you may have some excellent vantage points to see all sorts of cars and crews pedal their cars along.

This event is also a round of the Grand Prix Mazda MX5 challenge. Last year saw 8 MX5s take to the starting line with plenty of tough but friendly compeitition happening.
