REPORT - Gold Coast informal Friday 14th July - WITH PICS

Postby 99MXV » Fri Jul 14, 2006 11:44 pm

Just so you know............ A Turbo Starlet cannot keep up with a normally aspirated 1.6 NA MX5 on the road to Springbrook.

And....

The guy who lives on the corner of Springbrook Rd and the turnoff to Nerang............HAS A GUN !

Photos and a full report soon. I need to go sleep off 4 kilos of Pizza.

:)

well.....any N/A NA6 is a gun in the right hands.....not really surprising. Same the other way around. They are even under rated in the MX5 world

Special thanks to everybody on behalf of Mr Starlet, John and myself for making it such a wonderful night. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Special thanks to wayne for putting up with Mr Starlet :D

Just thought i'd let you all know, after letting Mr Starlet drive the NC home (and after bringing up the rear for most of the night), I honestly think he's gonna look up carsales.com.au for an MX5 the minute he gets home. Yes gentleman i think we've just converted another

Thank you all for the warm welcome and I'll see you all in 2 days time.

Hey Vac... It was great to meet you. I hope Mr Starlet was'nt too annoyed with us all. He still had a grin on his face at the top of the hill when we lost you. I wasnt so sure about swapping cars though......... You are a generous guy !

I've added some pics to a page:-

http://web.mac.com/wayneshelley/iWeb/Wa ... 0July.html

Rundown of the run was this:-

We met up at Elsie Laver Park as per usual, with everyone arriving between 6.30pm and 7.00pm. I was amazed that so many people would rock up for a ride up the hills, but the group of enthusiasts up here constantly continue to amaze me. Once the group had formed, Erics instructions were simple.........

\" We are going to Springbrook and back down\" - Sounded easy.

I decided to be Tail end Charlie as I wanted to test the new radio (works like a charm when you dont have a Mountain between the other set). So off we went.

I had Mr Starlet in front of me, and at first we had no trouble keeping up with the pack. Once we hit the hills, it was another story :)

I am sure I put the fear of God into the poor guy once or twice when my back end lost a little bit of grip due to the greasiness of the roads (it had just rained) and the fact that one of these days, the local taxi guy will come and reclaim his damn tyres off my car !

Near the top of the hill, I lost radio contact with the group, and The Starlet and I headed off RIGHT PAST the turnoff where all the cars were sitting waiting for us. (This is where the man with the GUN comes in).

We turned around about 5KM past the turnoff, headed back and found the group. Eric and Jules had taken off looking for us, and apparently, Erics unorthodox method of testing just how loud his car really is (IE with huge lead foot on the throttle) had annoyed a local yokel and he'd wandered up from his house 300m away WITH A GUN to have a little chat to Kym at the back of the now stopped convoy. He was very succint.......

Will you YOBS F$#%^ off before I shoot someone ?

Now... anyone that knows us will attest we are anything but yobs, however....... The minute Jules arrived back........ We Scarrpered

The roller coaster trip down had some awesome sweeping bends, and it was interesting to see the huge amounts of power that Rhys had out of the corners in the NB Supercharged Beast. Mark of course in the SP just kept dissapearing from view :)

We managed to make The Camelot Pizza Emporium with everyone intact and Mr Starlet asking what the HELL everyone had under their bonnets. (Yep.. we heard that on the radio... lol)

The Pizzas were filling to say the least. Conversation ranged from Centrelink fraud issues to why the $2.50 SP mod is the best thing since sliced bread. It was a great crowd.

After dinner a few of use went underground to get some shots of the cars.

It seems the \"Dragons Breath\" pizza was having some kind of effect on Marks SP and as soon as the \"blow off valve\" made that \"fart Sound\" it was time to head off home....................... (he knows what the hell I am talking about).

Driving home just wasnt the same. :)

Cheers and thanks, and as Kym said........... What we doing NEXT week ?

Great Pics! Oh Im so Jealous ! Sounds like you guys had a great time ! :)

But how could any counrty bumpkin decide a group such as ourselves with such refined taste in automobiles (with the exception of Mr Starlet, whom is soon to be converted anyhow) be \"Yobs\" ! Maybe if you were all driving tractors or utes instead........

You would probably be right.

Eric (Kitkat) said to us all as he just got back from aggrevating the gun toting straw sucking Klu Klux Klan member.........

" oh he does this all the time. Last week he clipped my girlfriend with his 4WD"

So I guess Mr Bumpkin had seen some MX5's before..

Next time.. I wont get lost and we wont have to stop near his house.

Ummmm noooooooooooooooo...

At this point we'll leave it be.

I can imagine he'd be a tad miffed by some of the GTR drivers who would get out his way on a weekly basis.

We'll just find a better place to stop next time.

It was also proved conclusively that you don't have to have a turbo to do an effective doughnut :D

It was a great night, many thanks to all who were there. Shame I couldn't hang round any longer but had screaming headache (from way too much fun) & had early start for work.

The guy at Springbrook is a real worry. I have a couple of friends who wear blue uniforms and if no-one objects, I'll mention the little chat the guy & I had.
I haven't yet because I wanted others thoughts.

I know he is probably hassled by the hoons (somehow I convinced him we were not hoons  ) but I would hate to read about him shooting some other poor bugger up there.

Obviously he is getting exceptionally pissed at people & maybe a quiet chat may encourage him to pull his head in?
The only downside I can see is maybe a greater police presence for awhile?

Opinions please - do I mention it to my mates or wait & read about him in the paper one morning?

Because I am not the only one affected by this (even tho it was a drive I wont forget & when I realised there was a gun involved I was really really glad I was nice to the man) I am happy to go with majority rules.

Exactly......I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Sounds like a very explosive combination and he has already grossly broken a few laws (very serious sh1t too) by threatening people with a firearm. Very baaaad news IMHO.
