help on install required..

G'Day All.
just bought a brushed aluminium dash insert thing for my NA...
It arrived in the post the other day, and i realised that i am not really sure how to go about installing it

If anyone has either useful info, pics or any other general advice as to how to do this, please post it here!

I got one in mine, was pretty hard to install..

You have to break off the clear plastic cover around the dash face..

Its is held in with glue, so i just ran a screwdriver around the edges. Lifting it gently until the plastic snapped away.. be careful when doing it as its very easy to put big cracks in it, and you will see them when its is installed back on the car.

You need to break the clear plastic away from the black..



All installed and lookin good..

A quick question for the brains trust...

I got started on this tonight, removed the trim around the ignition and indicator stalks...
Removed the instrument cowl cover thingy...
Undid the two wires on either side of the rear or the instruments...

But i cant for the life of me figure out how to remove the (assuming) speedo connector!!! do you just pull it? Does it twist off?

I started to run a screwdriver around the top part of the plastic cover, and no major incidents so far (touch wood)...

But without removing it in total, i cant get to the bottom section!

Please HELP!!!

theres a bit of a clip, but it just pulls out.

half of it stays on the cluster, half stays on the cable..

Managed to get past that without actually removing the speedo cable! YEAH!!

Now... What sort of adhesives would/did you use when sticking the new face on??

Dont know if i should just go for some araldite, super glue, or what!?

and then... what sort of glue would/did you use to stick the clear plastic back onto the instrument cluster??

Sorry for the Questions so late at night... but i would rather sort this out while the other half cant see what i am actually up to!!

i fitted a AWD one to my car, and outlined the steps in auto salon magazine:)

dont use super glue, it will fog the plastic
i used a very small amount of bostic industrial strength epoxy bond glue..
which i think is very similar to araldite.

my face had 2-3 bolts holding it in place, but a few drops of glue should do it.

All installed, back together...

unfortunately, its 2:30am, so i wont be driving it til LATE tomorrow!

Took approx 2 hours-ish including a drive to the sev/elev, drinkies, phone calls etc, but worth while all in all.

thanks again to Kula (insomniac?) for his help through the night.

now to update my sig to state that interior $BLING$ has begun!
