:roll: I am looking at new tyres for my 10AE. I'm currently running Michelin Pilot SX 195x50x15's
I do not want to spend a fortune so something in the area of say $200 or so per corner would be OK The car is mainly used on the road so a tyre that has good grip in the wet & dry

one dealer in Brisbane is getting 15 SETS of Precedas tomorrow :shock:

Kumho Ecsta SPT have the best bang for bucks ive seen lately...

$130 a wheel is quite reasonable and have good grip. Could also look at Falken Azenis at about $200 each, again a good tire, but the price differential favours the Khumo in my eyes...

You do always get what you pay for of course, but hey, if you dont like them then you will just have to sign up for more track days to kill them quicker!

(Or do just a few LVMA days...)

Had Bridgestone Potenzas on my Calibra. Very impressed with them. Are they suitable for the MX5?

I can vouch for the SPT's as i've just fitted them to mine - they got about 50-100kms on them now and they grip much better than my previous Firehawk Wideoval's wet and dry.
I payed 110 for the SPT's with a \"track day discount\" for the guys that do track days with paul rusic.

I was on the hunt for Hankook RS2's, Kumho MX, and a couple of others and they are all \"not being brought into the country\" or just not being made anymore.
I'll prolly go for Dunlop Direzza DZ101 next see how they go.
For the price of Michelon i'd rather get Falken Azenis RT's

dunlop direzza dz101s were the best WASTE of money Ive ever committed! :(

slippery in the wet and not much better in the dry either. To be honest I was driving Mrs Rains -5 round the other week and the nangkang ns2s on it were stickier than the dz101s. And yes, Im making allowances for the fact that my car is tighter in the suspension than hers.

if you are still interested in dz101s i rang around for mine and was quoted up to $200 each fitted. Eventually got em for $145 for 195/15/50

:D Thanks for the input guys! I have the falkens on my REX and they do a good job. Just might give the SPT's a go on the 5

Dont get the DZ101's. Mine were great at the start but around half worn out they went off really badly.
Shiney black one with added red bits. Member of the fart club. Now with extra doof and Sunlong. - deceased and gone to heaven

Robbo, I was in exactly the same situation with my 10AE approx 3 mths ago. Like you, I was replacing the original Michelins [which I thought were fantastic] but I figured I should consider alternatives such as Yokohama, Bridgestone, etc. I think I knew in my heart that to stick with Michelins would be a wise decision.......so I did.....had the Michelin Pilot Precedas fitted and have now done 3,000km with them. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE!!! I thought the old tyres were grippy & provided great handling but the new Precedas are that much better it's unreal.
Also, I was VERY happy with the price. $616/set fitted & balanced.

Totally agree that the original Pilots were good. As I wore out the rears I decided to replace them (onto the fronts of course) with a new set of Precedas. These were not preceda II's.
Well I recently needed some more replacements for the original Pilots (now on the rear) and I decided on Preceda II's. The new tyres again went onto the front so the 4000k Precedas went onto the back.

All I can say is why did they change? Hopefully the Preceda II's will be better than the plain precedas. They are a much harder compound and slippery in the wet. I'm just not convinced that Mitchy got it right changing the compound from the original Pilots. However, on a stock car I believe that both the Precedas I & II will serve you well.

Until the Preceda II's go onto the back I wont be able to access the drive, but under brakes and steering they are fantastic as Col says.

btw, the Blue car is kicking twice stock kW through these, so traction will be an issue using just about anything black and round anyway.

You should be able to hunt around and find the Azenis RT615's for around $200. They won't last as long as more road orientated tyres but are well worth it for the grip.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum so I hope this gets posted to where it's supposed to.
I've been reading the forum for some time and have been taking note of peoples recommendations for new tyres. I'm at the stage where I need some (for our 2002 NB) and have decided that I'll go for the Michelin Precedas. I note that a month or two back \"Col\" from Pakenham got his for $616.
Today I've been quoted $970 both here in Corowa and also from Bob Jane in Albury. Can anyone tell me which is a normal price to pay?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.
