any comments on them???

they're still not WOW...

I don't think I get the right stuff for it....

like these photos WOW me
I'm no expert on photography, but IMO, the background in your pics is way too busy. Also, I think you should be perfectly parallel or perpendicular to something in the background. Also lighting and shadows are all over the shop.

The 200SX is parallel to the left hand railing of the car park so it kinda flows towards the building. It's also overcast so the lighting is dispersed evenly with no shadows.

The Honda is symmetrical in every way. :)

I've never been a photographer and don't even own a camera but these are just my thoughts. They're probably wrong.

Constructive criticisms? Hrm ok I'll give this a go:

I reckon the last shot there totally looks the goods. Except shut the door next time..? :P

There's not much you can do about the location itself (unless you keep moving the car around to maintain the cleanest background at all angles. What you can do though is take a picture from a different height so the horizon doesn't go through the car and clash with its lines. I see you've tried to do that for #2 and #3, which is good. Level shots are great as long as you have an uncluttered horizon (or better yet none at all - eg Felix's teg shot).

Re angles:
Angles can suggest action or dynamism, but subtlety is the key there. Too much and the brain starts struggling to process it. Too little and it just looks askew. Also, preference of mine is to have the car pointing top right - don't know why but I do. Maybe it's the mind's way of \"reading\" a picture much like you read a book..?

Lighting is another key ingredient, but one most don't have any control over. Having a car this clean and shiny is obviously a problem because you're dealing with some harsh reflections here. Having it perpendicular helps a lot, like in #4 and #5. However I would also try brightening those pics and adding a little more saturation to make it really stand out.

If you have a DSLR, get yourself a circular polariser too and play around with it.

Wow, I've really been talking outta my arse here haven't I..?

Anyway, don't take anything I say here as \"definitive\" or whatever - I have my own tastes and preferences and as photographers love saying: \"Rules are meant to be broken\" :D

jonno.

P.S. I really did mean what I initially said about the pics - they're definitely a cut above the rest and I'm really nitpicking here.
(Perhaps we should also move this to the OT thread..?)

Since this is on the 2nd page, I'll re-link the pics here for reference.
Edit: Yeah they were a pain. Pics removed.

P.S. Maybe also clone out that speed bump in the last shot..? 8)

32 hours? Pffft! I once photographed a Ferrari 512 Boxer for a poster, got talking to the owner who told me that he had spent the previous two months preparing the car for the Ferrari Owners Club Concourse      and, get this, he pulled the engine and gearbox out to get clear access to polish them and the engine bay. The words 'anal retentive' and 'rich bastard' crossed my mind, but he did win the trophy, so I guess in his mind it was all worth it... Another friend used to refer to the Jaguar Owners Club as the 'Poofters and Polishers' club (not that there's anything wrong with that :D ) As the late Lou Molina used to say \"There's the Show-ers and there's the Go-ers\" and I'M GOING! :P

Umm, yeah, I think it's a bit overkill. Even with broadband. It's also a pain in the ass to scroll down to a new post.

A circular polariser will do wonders as will a cleaner location.

a good tip my dad taught me is for us that dont have a studio take your photos on an overcast day at dusk. just as the sun disapears over the hills. you only have afew moments to go snap mental but the effects are amazing... seriously its like you've photo shoped the pictures or something all the colours are richer and deeper as are the reflections..

worth giving ago..
took this one of our merc when we were selling it needed to wait a little longer perhaps and find a better back drop but it was just for selling it :P

note car was unpolished and needed a cut n buff

What you guys think of this kit for my camera then...

wide angle, zoom, mini tripod, lense cleaners AND filters including a polarizer.

not sure what kind.
