MX5's to run with the V8 Supercars in QLD!!!!!!

Postby neil d » Sat Jun 17, 2006 11:31 am

Hi all

As the title states the local MX5 boys have been invited to run at the QLD round of the V8 Supercars in July. The invite will be open to all CAMS logbooked cars.

So if any of you NSW boys are free that weekend it would be good to see you here.

If you can make it we need to let Brian or Henri know at the following emails by mid week.

Subject: Very important

Hi everybody,
I had a phone call from John Kirk today. He was contacted by John Tetley of Queensland Raceway.
The MX5's have been invited to put on a race at the V8 Supercar meeting on the 22nd and 23rd of July. Entry will be $400 (down from $500 thanks to JK) for four 10 lap races plus practice and qualifying.
I have suggested we can get between 20 and 25 cars, which we will need to put on a good show.
The circuit audience will be about 30,000 plus TV covered by SBS the following week. This gives you sponsorship opportunities way beyond what we usually expect.
Trick is, I need numbers by mid next week at the latest. I will be talking to Mazda Australia plus the local distributors.
The deal still has to be signed off by Tony Cochrane however this should not present a problem.
No doubt you are asking why us?
My understanding is there were problems with the first invited group and given our support for the AASA meetings and the good racing we put on, we were next cab off the rank.
Please get back to me ASAP so we can confirm numbers.

p.s if you know other potential starters not on the list, please let them know.

Cheers

Thank god I got some interest!

Locally we should have 20 cars available to run but it would be fantastic to have as many as possible and hopefully grow the class.

Look forward to seeing you up here CT.

Apparently we will know one way or the other on Wednesday I will update when more news comes to hand.

Yeah, my connections can get my car into a V8 transporter so that makes it feasible. I am most excited!!! I might even bang on some new rubber! 8)

Neil..I would be there but my car has no front on it,I can't afford it and I hate Queensland raceway...apart from that all is good.

If it was at Lakeside...different story.

Apparently a group is currently talking to pine river shire to buy it back and they throwing some serious cash at it.

CT we will know after Wednesday. If it’s all concerned you are more than to stay at my place to save on accommodation as I will be going to the track daily.

It would be almost worth while going to see Brian & CT up against Henri & Brian F! Now that would be a real race! Real State of Origin stuff!!!
