QLD - Coastal Challenge - June 16th and 17th

Postby rhysk » Tue May 16, 2006 9:57 am

The 6th annual Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge is being run in South East Queensland in June.

In a significant change from previous years, this year’s Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge will
comprise two “legs”, one being run on Friday 16th and the second on Saturday 17th June. In recognition that
some people will be unable to take time off for both days, there is the opportunity to compete in one leg only.

As with previous years, the Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge is being run in parallel with the local
round of the Australian Rally Championship, Coates Rally Queensland.

The first leg of the Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge will start in Brisbane around noon Friday and
finish at the ARC street carnival at Mooloolabah that afternoon. The Coastal Challenge vehicle will be
displayed with the ARC cars. The second leg will start on the north coast on Saturday morning, visit Imbil
and Gympie before finishing at the Coates Rally Queensland regroup at Mooloolabah.

The Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge is a Touring Road Event with non speed sub-events
designed for standard road cars. Both crew members must have a CAMS 2NS (or higher) license, CAMS
approved helmets, and the car must be fitted with safety triangles. Specialised navigation equipment
(Halda, Terratrip) is not required, however a working odometer is strongly recommended, as are a first aid
kit and fire extinguisher

Distance will be approximately 200km each day, with several special tests along the route. These may
include motorkhana style tests, the skid pan at RoadCraft Gympie and their driver training circuit. The
Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge route will include the all bitumen Imbil Special Stage from the
ARC.

Navigation will be straightforward using the latest tourist maps of the area. These will be supplied by the
organisers. Instructions may include night run style, tulip diagrams, map trace, map features, grid
references and herringbone charts. The aim is to get all competitors around the course, and the instructions
have been prepared with this in mind.

Entries open on the 15th of May. Please contact Sheridan at the BSCC clubrooms on 3846 0233 during the
day for further information, or to be included on the mailing list.

An information night will be held in the BSCC club rooms at 8:00pm on Wednesday 31st May. For those
crews “not sure”, this evening will provide more details on the event and also explain the type of navigation
to be used, crew and car requirements.

Leg 2 of the Fulcrum Suspension Coastal Challenge will form a round of the 2006 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge.
The Mazda MX5 Challenge will be open to crew in a Mazda MX5, and the winner of the Mazda MX5 Challenge will be
the crew which scores the most points in the events that make up the 2006 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge.

I'll be there (if I can get a navigator).

I wonder why it is only leg 2 that is part of the MX-5 Challenge, I thought it would be the whole event.

Leg 2 = Saturday. It means those who can't attend Friday aren't disadvantaged.

You need to do a few things to the car, but it is as serious as you want it to be.

I can't make it again this year as I am photographing a wedding, like last year.

Re accom, I have a lead through John Allen on a place about 5mins up the road, called the.... oops I forget. They won't be needing their rooms now after the crash in WA. So someone can ask John which place it was, apparently its new and the rates were good.

Else, if anyone is booking, let us know as we might jump in, we only get back in time for scrutineering.

Loads of fun!!!!

Thanks to a heap of hard work put in by Andrew, Ted, Jackie and the other volunteers, we had a ball. Special Tests were great (Bris entertainment centre carpark was a blast, road loop and Gympie was pretty rough though) and the nav stuff was pretty cool. Saw some great roads (held up by \"lookloves\" a bit) including the climb on Obi Obi road

Results should be out shortly....
