Toyo T1-Rs

I'm getting my 205/45x16 T1-R's fitted Monday or Tuesday, so glad to here the positive feedback.

bigdog any reason you didn't get the 45 series and went for the 40 series tire?

Bought em cause they were cheap... real cheap! Another eBay score for the Doggie! Otherwise I would have gone std size Albert.

Just be warned apparently there are fake name brand tyres floating about.

These are the real deal Okibi - even had his purchase invoice ($1200!!) with him. He had bought them to fit to a Familia GTRIXZ 4WD thingy - but they were too wide for the car - and as he had put 200km on them he couln't return them.. he expected to get near new price on eBay (adn I thought they would go for a lot more too) but he only ran a 3 day auction, nobody saw them and mine was the only bid... I love eBay

would you consider $189 per corner fitted and balanced (215/40R16 Toyo T1-R) a good price?

Yep! About as good as you'll do for the genuine article I think, and quite a bit cheaper than Michelin PP2's which are the other recommended tyre.

Are there such thing as NON-genuine tyre? :shock:

....anyway to identifying the genuine stuff?

Yeah, most well documented are the counterfeit Michelin truck tyres (truck and earth moving tyres can be VERY expensive)

Ahh bugger me!! has anyone came across or heard of fake Toyo T1R?...if so is there a way of telling which is which?

Dunno about fake, but make sure they are Japanese made (even the Toyo rep cringed when he mentioned the Chinese ones made under licence!) and make sure the 4 digit number ends in XX06, with the XX referring to the week they were manafactured and the 06 referring to the year...so the newer they are the higher the XX number!

I just got a set fitted yesterday afternoon by the boys at Blairs Cabramatta. Good crew down there, looked after me well and set the alignment to exactly what I wanted.

It's good to have grip again, putting the foot down flat and actually moving is a novelty without sitting there and spinning it.

I should have got some photos of the rear tyres. Lets just say I got my moneys worth out of them. It made for an exciting/ scary :shock:

Don't push it on brand new tires, it takes awhile to wear off that greasy coating.

Okibi that's what I have found driving on them and reading about them. They seem to take a little while to come good.

First impressions are that they grip very well but there seems to be a delay for lack of a better word between the grip of the tyres and when the car reacts. The tyres grip but the car seems to continue as though it feels like it is going around the outside of the corner until the car is set. It also seems to take a litlle while to come out of the set for a corner as well.

Hopefully this should sort itself out after getting some good heat through the tyres and get rid of the squirminess once they have been scrubbed in a little. I think a couple of firm not hard driving should do it.

Wot Camel Boy said - check date and country of manufacture - you want Japan and 06. The others aren't fakes, just not as good. My car had Pirelli PZeros on it that were shockers - but they weren't made in Germany - so while they were Pirelli's they weren't nearly as good as they should have been.

Those PZero Nero's youres were awsome......dropped the clutch one day at 5500 to get acrposs traffic quicly just after i had them fitted.....sideways drift across 3 lanes...yeehaaaaa. :mrgreen:

on a stock 1.6 :lol:

mind you they also kepot up withj a set of DO1's along the old pavc one night.
